Generation Schools Network seeks to transform public education through sustainable, scalable strategies that drive student achievement & teacher effectiveness. Our vision is all studentsregardless of life circumstancesare prepared for success in school, work, & life. DURING THE 2016-2017 FISCAL YEAR, GSN UNDERTOOK WORK TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION IN 152 SCHOOLS IN 61 DISTRICTS IMPACTING OVER 41,000 STUDENTS AND ALMOST 3,000 TEACHERS

GSN seeks to co-create healthy school ecosystems by partnering with educators, students, families and communities to elevate the education experience. Generation Schools Networks vision is that all schools are vibrant, inclusive ecosystems that ensure every student thrives in school, work and life. GSN specifically targets its education supports and turnaround efforts in schools where it can focus on changing the trajectory for traditionally marginalized and underserved students. During the 2017-2018 fiscal year, GSN worked in 197 schools and 68 districts in 4 states to help students thrive.

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

7.INCOME TAXESThe Organization is exempt from income taxes under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3); consequently, no provision or liability for income taxes has been provided in the accompanying financial statements.The Organization has adopted provisions of ASC 740-10, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes which prescribes when to recognize and how to measure the financial statement effects, if any, of income tax positions taken or expected to be taken on its income tax returns, including the position that the Organization continues to qualify to be treated as a tax-exempt entity for both federal and state income tax purposes. These rules require management to evaluate the likelihood that, upon examination by relevant taxing jurisdictions, those income tax positions would be sustained.The Organization undergoes an annual analysis of its various tax positions, assessing the likelihood of those positions being upheld upon examination with relevant tax authorities, as defined by ASC 740-10. Management does not believe there to be any uncertain tax positions and has thus not recorded any related provision.The Organizations tax returns are subject to examination by taxing authorities for a period of three years from the date they are filed. As of June 30, 2018, the tax years subject to examination include FYE 2015 through FYE 2017.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Northeast Region During fiscal 2018, GSN continued to provide technical support and thought partnership in implementing the Generation Schools Model at Brooklyn Generation School (BGS), a New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) school which GSN helped to launch in 2007. BGS graduation rate exceeds the city-wide average and more than 90% of students are gaining college acceptance. GSN eliminated its physical presence in Brooklyn in April 2018 and has been providing support for BGS through its Colorado-based staff thereafter.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt07.INCOME TAXESThe Organization is exempt from income taxes under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3); consequently, no provision or liability for income taxes has been provided in the accompanying financial statements.The Organization has adopted provisions of ASC 740-10, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes which prescribes when to recognize and how to measure the financial statement effects, if any, of income tax positions taken or expected to be taken on its income tax returns, including the position that the Organization continues to qualify to be treated as a tax-exempt entity for both federal and state income tax purposes. These rules require management to evaluate the likelihood that, upon examination by relevant taxing jurisdictions, those income tax positions would be sustained.The Organization undergoes an annual analysis of its various tax positions, assessing the likelihood of those positions being upheld upon examination with relevant tax authorities, as defined by ASC 740-10. Management does not believe there to be any uncertain tax positions and has thus not recorded any related provision.The Organizations tax returns are subject to examination by taxing authorities for a period of three years from the date they are filed. As of June 30, 2018, the tax years subject to examination include FYE 2015 through FYE 2017.
