To advocate for fiscal responsibility regarding public tax dollars in public education funding.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Coordinated with teachers and school administration to facilitate the creation of school supply packets that parents of students could purchase to ensure their students had the supplies they needed delivered to their classrooms on the first day of school. Packets also included materials for use by teachers for the benefit of the entire class such as hand sanitizers and tissues (approximately 40 classrooms). This service was available to all families at the school regardless of PTA membership (approximately 850 students and families). The PTA also worked with the school counselor to obtain a few extra packs for each grade level that could be provided to at-risk students.$0$7,347
Our PTA unit had an increased focus this year on bringing in new parents to the Executive Board and related committees who had not previously been very involved in PTA activities. It was important for the development of these future PTA leaders to ensure they received leadership and subject matter training on their PTA positions and activities with an emphasis on introducing them to the mission and values of PTA and ways they could engage the Brookwood Elementary community as well as the larger community to benefit the students of Texas. It is anticipated that these new trained PTA leaders will ensure a smooth and strong future for the organization and bring new ideas and energy to helping advocate for students and promote engagement of families. 12 members were reimbursed for training expenses but their leadership of committees and activities within the organization benefited all 440 members of the PTA.$0$3,135
Planned and held educational programs for students, parents, and teachers on topics such as how parents can prepare students for gifted and talented program testing; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) demonstrations at the school from the Houston Astros, the Mad Hatter, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science; and a visit from a prominent children's author to talk about her stories and encouraging reading. We also planned a family movie night program at the beginning of the school year to welcome families to the school and given them opportunities to meet and mingle with other families and school personnel in an informal setting. These programs reached an audience of about 1400 members and non-members within the community over the course of the school year.$0$2,982
