“Houston international dance coalition's main activity is dance salad festival, an internationally acclaimed, weeklong festival that invigorates houston's diverse cultural community with international, national and regional dance as well as outreach programs. Dance salad festival (dsf) presents top quality dance companies while emphasizing the role of dance and music as fundamental forms of human expression. The 2020 presentation of dance salad festival scheduled for the week of april 5 was interrupted by the covid-19 pandemic. On march 11 president trump cancelled all flights from europe making it impossible for most participants to perform in houston as scheduled. This was promptly followed by houston's mayor, sylvester turner, declaring force majeure and closing the wortham center where dance salad festival was to be held. The organization adapted to the pandemic by postponing the 2020 event, essentially in its entirety, to the week of march 29 through april 4, 2021. Most scheduled performers have agreed to the deferral date and hidc is hopeful that live performances will once again be allowed by then. Prepaid tickets have been refunded or can be used next year. Going forward this unique festival will again promote cross cultural understanding through exposure to different international dance forms and visiting artists. Hidc/dsf contributes to houston's cultural fabric through curated dance festival performances and innovative community outreach programs designed to promote interaction among choreographers, dancers, musicians and their audiences and by providing expanded educational opportunities to get to know the world through dance.”
