Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To serve local artists, to encourage a community of interest between professional and lay people in all forms of art.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
MAA is a bookkeeper for the Arts Council of Midland's project - Visual Arts Center Feasibility study that is looking to create a center in Midland, TX. MAA is also developing Historical Mural of Midland idea and collecting funds for the project.$7,000$7,000
Fall Juried Art Exhibition - The Fall Juried Art Exhibition is in conjunction with Midland College and is exhibited in the McCormick Gallery in the Allison Fine Arts Building on campus. This exhibition promotes community involvement in the arts and provides creative artists opportunities to display their work. This show accepts the actual work to be juried, rather than by electronic submission. Works are delivered to the campus, juried by a well-known artist, and exhibited. The Fall Juried Art Exhibition normally hangs during October and November and begins with an official Opening Ceremony. Winners are announced at this time. Notably, during the opening reception, scholarships are awarded to two Midland College Art students. After the end of the ceremony, guests are welcome to explore the mystery of art displayed in the gallery, talk to the other guests and, most importantly, to artists themselves. General public is invited to purchase the work of artwork that caught their eye during the entire duration of the exhibit.$6,600$6,903
Weekend Art Workshops - WAWs are a series of workshops, demonstrations, lectures, group plain airs, wine-and-paints and critique sessions. MAA strive to continue to provide a high quality workshops, classes, and demos with professional artists for either completely free of charge or for a small fee to cover the cost of materials, artist fee, and facilities. We plan to host such events at least every 3 months, either on our own or in collaboration with Pallet Club or other art organizations of Midland. We believe that consistency in workshop/class/demo offerings will attract more general public and will make sure guests will able to attend at times that are convenient to them and will be able to plan ahead. MAA plans to host Weekend Art Workshop Series in 2019 on a regular schedule. We also believe that WAWs are an excellent way to enhance the value of MAA membership and attract more people to join and get involved with art community.$3,600$4,335
MAA is very excited to offer a new collaborative project Spring Open Show in conjunction with Kamiposi, a well know art gallery and even center in Midland, TX. This event will take place on the 1st Friday of May, 2017. This time is perfect as it is close to the end of the Spring Semester; many school and college students will be encouraged to submit their artwork to be displayed at the professional venue with the true creative vibe. Seasoned professional artists will be submitting their art and will be showcased alongside with the kids artwork or artwork of talented people who have never before gotten a chance to exhibit their creations for the public to enjoy. This event will be held instead of MAAs regular Spring Art Juried Art Exhibition at the Museum of Southwest, but will have a similar format. Artists from all surrounding areas will be encouraged to attend. The difference will be that all artwork submitted will be displayed (size restrictions may apply due to the size of the venue). We believe that this would be a refreshing concept that would attract broader talented population of Permian Basin. Professional Juror will select winners in numerous categories; prizes will be awarded. MAA also plans on holding a reception to recognize donors, volunteers, artists, venue and guests who would greatly contribute to the events success. Selected artwork will be available for purchase throughout the month. MAA/Kamiposi will collect commission on every sale. We did not have it in 2018, but did in 2019.$0$0
