Form 990-ez, Part III

The primary exempt purpose of the dallas regional science and engineering fair (drsef) is to focus attention on the scientific experience in texas education agency region 10 schools and to stimulate interest in scientific investigation beyond that covered in the classroom through service programs.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Science & engineering project competition - under the auspices of the international science and engineering fair (isef), annually since 1957, the drsef has organized a regional science and engineering project competition. It is now open to over 2,000 public schools and all private and charter schools in texas education agency region 10. The regional fair day draws over 1,000 students who won their school fairs, about 200 teachers, and 500 volunteer judges - probably the largest single volunteering event in north texas. Science projects go on free public display after the competition.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

International science fair: each spring the drsef assists regional science fair winners to compete in state and international science fair competitions through logistical and financial support including affiliation fees, project shipping, travel, accommodation and mentoring.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

Awards banquet: each spring, the drsef holds two awards banquets (one for junior and one for senior divisions) for 600 students, parents, and teachers to recognize winning students and teachers from the regional science fair. A distinguished speaker is invited and an awards program is printed for attendees.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 31

Science fair workshop: to facilitate setting up of school science fair competitions, the drsef mails key literature to regional schools, organizes a regional science fair workshop for about 70 teachers, and provides ongoing information support via phone, email, and the drsef website dallassciencefair.org every fall. Judge recruiting: year round the drsef liases with local area businesses, educational and professional organizations to recruit around 500 judges for the science fair competition. A database of about 700 judges is maintained. Mentoring: drsef assists in matching undergraduate student volunteers at local universities with school students requesting mentoring for their projects.
