Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Part I, Line 16

Beckles Dancing Companys program service expenses include all costs associated with community-based dance performances, educational programs, and artist development initiatives. Scholarships, tuition assistance, and fee waivers are embedded within program expenses and are not reported as separate grants. Program services directly served approximately 840 audience members and participants. Line 16, Other expenses, includes administrative costs such as website, software subscriptions, bank fees, tax preparation, directors & officers insurance, general liability insurance, and miscellaneous administrative expenses. All reporting is on a cash basis. Beginning balances for assets and net assets are zero because the prior year was filed as a 990-N postcard. All figures reconcile with Part I, Line 17 (Total Expenses) and Part II, Line 27 (Net Assets).

Part II, Line 24

Beginning Balances The organization filed Form 990-N for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2023. Because Form 990-N does not require balance sheet reporting, beginning balances for fiscal year 20232024 are reported as zero. The organization reports on the cash basis of accounting. Net Asset Reconciliation The organizations end-of-year net assets equal the net increase reported on Part I, Line 21. Beginning net assets of $0 plus the current year change in net assets of $10,005 equals ending net assets of $10,005. Line 24 Other Assets The organization did not hold capitalized fixed assets or other reportable assets at year end. Line 26 Total Liabilities The organization had no outstanding liabilities at the end of the fiscal year.

Part IV Compensation of Officers

Dedra Brent served as Managing Director during the fiscal year and received $22,074 in compensation reported on Form 1099-MISC. Compensation was paid for management and administrative services provided to the organization. The Managing Director is treated as an independent contractor and does not receive health benefits, retirement contributions, deferred compensation, or other fringe benefits from the organization. ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Beckles Dancing Company respectfully requests abatement of any penalties assessed in connection with its originally filed Form 990-EZ for the tax year ending August 31, 2024. The amended return is being filed to correct unintentional reporting and classification errors identified during a subsequent internal financial review. The inaccuracies were administrative in nature and did not involve omission of income, diversion of assets, or misuse of funds. Reasonable Cause During the 20232024 fiscal year, the organization experienced a transition in financial management and administrative capacity. BDC is a small nonprofit organization operating with limited staff and resources. At the time of the original filing, financial recordkeeping responsibilities were managed without dedicated accounting personnel, and the organization relied on internal compilation of financial data. Despite exercising ordinary business care and prudence, certain revenue and expense classifications were inadvertently misreported due to: Administrative transition and restructuring of fiscal oversight Limited accounting capacity during active program delivery Incomplete year-end reconciliation prior to filing The organization acted in good faith and believed the original return to be accurate at the time of submission. Prompt Corrective Action Upon discovering the discrepancies while preparing the subsequent fiscal year return, BDC immediately: Conducted a full reconciliation of all bank statements and financial records Reviewed and verified all contractor payments and expense categories Corrected revenue and expense classifications Filed an amended return to ensure complete accuracy Implemented strengthened financial oversight procedures Corrective Measures Implemented To prevent recurrence, the organization has: Established formal year-end reconciliation protocols Implemented documented internal review procedures prior to filing Segregated financial review responsibilities Improved tracking of restricted funds and program allocations These measures ensure ongoing compliance and accurate reporting. No Willful Neglect The errors were unintentional and administrative in nature. There was no attempt to underreport income, conceal information, or avoid tax obligations. The organization has acted promptly and responsibly upon discovery. BDC respectfully submits that the circumstances described constitute reasonable cause under IRS standards and demonstrate good faith compliance efforts. Accordingly, the organization respectfully requests full abatement of any penalties assessed related to the originally filed Form 990-EZ for the tax year ending August 31, 2024. Thank you for your consideration.
