Therefore, no federal income taxes are paid or accrued so long as dhm/cet's gross receipts are used for its exempt purpose or purposes. Dhm/cet recognized interest accrued related to unrecognized tax benefits and penalties in administrative expenses, if any. For 2014 and 2013, there were no interest or penalty expenses, and dhm/cet is not under examination for tax purposes by any taxing jurisdition. Open tax years subject to examination are 2011 to present. Dhm/cet generated unrelated business income tax liability, recorded in accounts payable, of $36,873 and $17,850 related to parking lot revenue in 2014 and 2013, respectively. Dhm/cet believes it has taken no significant uncertain tax positions.

Colletions of Art, Historical Treasures, or Other Similar Assets

The artifacts are made up of items of historical significance and art objects that are held for educational, research, and curatorial purposes. Each of the items is cataloged, preserved, and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. The decline in volume in 2014 is due to the return of donated artwork to a donor.

IRS990/Desc0Dallas Holocaust Museum provides life-changing educational experiences about one of history's most horrifying tragedies and its aftermath. During 2014 over 33,000 walk-in visitors and 31,600 school children visited. More than 6,300 of these students were able to visit through the generosity of private donors who gave to the Museum Experience Fund. This fund makes visits possible for economically disadvantaged students. Membership at year-end was 695. In 2014 the Museum inaugurated its annual Upstander Speaker Series featuring human rights standouts and academic experts including Philip Gourevitch, specialist on the Rwandan Genocide and reconciliation, Dorothy Budd, advocate for the wrongly incarcerated, and Harry Wu, former Chinese political prisoner and human rights advocate. The museum organized and led teacher workshops across Texas, hosted its 2nd annual two-day Holocaust and Human Rights Conference and several Survivor events. In addition to the core exhibit, 2014 rotating special exhibits included: A History of the Kindertransport; Besa: A Code of Honor--Albanians Who Rescued Jews during the Holocaust; The Faces of the Ghetto: Lodz; Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings; and the self-curated Drawn to Action: the Life and Work of Arthur Szyk.
