“Bylaw amendments established a legal department, added new membership categories, required board member participation and attendance, changed presidential succession to election by member vote, and authorized executive board meetings to be held virtually or by phone.”

“Regular membership in this association shall be limited to commissioned members of the police department of the city of austin who have been regularly appointed under civil service. A member of the association who retires from active duty will be carried as a retired life member, provided he/she was an active regular member for the fifteen years immediately prior to retirement. A deserving citizen may be elected to honorary membership upon recommendation by the board of directors and approval by two-thirds of the membership present and voting majority at a general membership meeting. Non-sworn employees of the department may join the association as associate members.”

“Regular members elect the board of directors. The president, the vice president, the secretary, and the treasurer shall be elected at-large by a vote of the membership. Other proposals may be voted on by the general membership.”

“A written conflict of interest questionnaire is completed by every board member in january of each year. Any issues disclosed in the questionnaire are taken to the full board of directors at the february meeting to discuss. The board provides resolution, if needed. The process is documented in the meeting minutes.”

“15a and 15b the executive board (which includes the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, parliamentarian, and one at large board member) sets the salary for the officers each year during the budget process. The entire board approves the salaries and annual budget in december.”
