Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Silk Road Development's purpose is to assist Afghans in making significant transformational changes for their country through purposeful training and development of individuals in all spheres of influence, which include arts, business, education, family, government, media and medical. This strategic purpose will aid in the success of building capacity, which will impact the renewal of hope within the heart of all Afghans. In addition, Silk Road will be facilitating many humanitarian projects such as food and clothing distributions, free medical services, and providing aid and support when called upon by friends living and working in Afghanistan. Silk Road is committed to serving the underserved and focusing our efforts to build a lasting relationship with our Afghan friends and brothers. We are continuing to seek ways to make a difference in the lives of the Afghans and in the establishment of reshaping the development of a country.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
During the year of 2013, Silk Road Development (SRD) facilitated multiple leadership training seminars in the cities of Kabul and Mazar e-Sharif, Afghanistan. Approximately 85 people attended the trainings. Medical professionals lectured at local hospitals to the Afghan medical staff in order to give up-to-date medical practice information. SRD medical team members also made rounds on patients in the hospital to help Afghan medical physicians accurately diagnose and treat the patients. SRD also facilitated a medical clinic to the children of women who were incarcerated at a local prison in Kabul. The hospice program SRD introduced to Afghanistan is continuing to take root in a society where there is no plan in the country's basic health care system for the terminally ill. There have been approximately 60 patients enrolled in the program since its inception. A relationship was built between SRD and a school for street children. Sewing machines were donated to a few of the children's mothers to begin a sewing business to keep their children from having to beg for the family's daily sustenance. SRD has established an education scholarship program and now has two Afghan students as recipients. One student is finishing his final year of college to receive his BBA and the other student is in his first semester studying for his MBA. SRD facilitated a food distribution for an Afghan village for 250 families.$77,002-
