“Mercy in action 2024 accomplishments & annual report: mercy in action global: in january 2024, mercy in action hosted our first international event in the philippines since the covid-19 pandemic ended, our 10-day experience the model learn & serve. Missionaries and midwives came from all of the world to learn, including india, haiti, madagascar, and the usa. We also held helping mothers and babies survive trainings in the philippines, the usa, and austria. Trainings were held for national midwives on helping babies breathe in january, and in july, dozens of local doctors, nurses and midwives were trained in advanced level neonatal resuscitation using the new laerdal computerized simulation model. In february, we identified a building site for our newest philippines birth center, and building commenced on our portion of a six floor medical complex. The process of licensing and accreditation was begun, and in july we moved into the clinic space to begin offering prenatal exams and educational seminars. We also moved into a newly constructed ministry headquarters office and apartment in the same building in december. Mercy in actions community outreach continued with home visits to poor families in the first 1,000 days program, and we began a new maternity clinic on the landfill once a week in cooperation with ministry partners who provided us with access to an exam room space and community kitchen to feed the mothers and young children. We started two research projects led by vicki penwell and kristen benoit on our first 1,000 days and international childbirth initiative (ici) programs in the philippines. These research projects will be used in doctoral dissertations, and the results will be made available for anyone wishing to model their own maternal/child health program after mercy in actions programs. Mercy in action had two young interns in 2024 who served for a total of 5 months; these interns added value to the team through their creative skills in art and photography and donated health educational art and a promotional video, respectively. Stats from the three philippine birth centers mercy in action sponsors: o births = 413 o office visits for prenatal exam = 2,940 o additional prenatals conducted in the women's prisons and at patients homes o home visits for postpartum and newborn follow up = 4,801 mercy in action college of midwifery: mercy in action college of midwifery provided midwifery education to over 150 students who matriculated in the usa through our accredited four-year midwifery program. 26 students graduated with a bachelor of science degree in midwifery in 2024. We awarded a total of 29 scholarships: 12 went to our bachelor of science students and 17 were awarded to black and indigenous midwives preparing to take their narm board exam in 2024. For continuing education, 642 online ceu courses were purchased, and 53 were gifted to take for free. Our diploma in international midwifery & maternal/child health program has a total of 36 active scholars from around the world representing 22 different countries.”
“Mercy in action annually evaluates all federal and state income tax positions. This process includes an analysis of whether these income tax positions the organization takes meet the definition of an uncertain tax position under the income taxes topic of the financial accounting standards codification. As of december 31, 2024, there were no uncertain tax positions noted. Mercy in action's policy is to classify income tax penalties and interest, when applicable, according to their natural classification. Under the statute of limitations, mercy in action's tax returns are no longer subject to examination by tax authorities for years prior to 2021.”
