Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The foundation launched its mentor program in february 2006 for children who are affected by the incarceration of one or both of their parents. The foundation recruits volunteers from the community, matches them with eligible children, and offers ongoing support to both children and mentors. The mentors provide stable, long-term relationships for the students and help them develop and maintain positive attitudes towards school. During the 2021/2022 school year a total of 470 children (grades k-12) received mentoring in 129 schools. 50% of these children were in elementary school, 36% were in middle school and 14% were in high school. 68% of the students attended schools in austin. 94% of the children mentored were considered financially disadvantaged and 93% of the children were hispanic, african american or multi race.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

The endowment consists of funds designated as net assets without donor restrictions and can be used to meet withdrawals authorized by the board of directors of seedling.

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The most significant tax postions of seedling are its assertions that it is exempt from income taxes and its determination of where any amounts are subject to unrelated business income tax (ubit). Management of seedling has determined they didn't have any unrelated business income during the fiscal years ended july 31, 2022 and 2021. All significant tax postions have been considered by management and it has determined that it is more likely than not that all tax positions would be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities.
