Activity 2

Community Development (Promoting Healthy Teen Relationships through Parent-focused Transition Programs for parents whose youth transition from elementary to middle school and from childhood to adolescence.): The Austin Project is part of a 4 year partnership with SafePlace, the Austin Independent School District and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to promote healthy teen relationships in targeted communities within Austin. TAP developed and implemented highly successful transition planning workshops to engage parents in effective parenting strategies, involvement with their child's middle school, and ways to support their children's development of healthy teen relationships ************************** Community Development (Intermediary Collaborations: Promoting alignment of services and resources through participation on City/Council/AISD Task Forces, Youth Service Collaborations, and Neighborhood Coalitions): The Austin Project served on a number of Task Forces and community coalitions including the Housing and School Mobility Task Force, the Juvenile Support Task Force, the Network of Family Resource Centers, the Dove Springs Community/School Alliance, the Martin Middle School Community/School Alliance, the Austin Healthy Adolescents Leadership Coalition, Ready x 21 Coalition, and the Children/Youth Mental Health Partnership Team.

Activity 3

Strengthening Families (Family Resource Center Development): The Austin Project, with funding from the Austin Independent School District, along with support from foundations, community organizations, agencies and community members continued the development of middle school-based Family Resource Centers on five middle school campuses located in low income communities in East Austin. The FRCs are designed to reduce student mobility, increase student attendance, improve student academic performance and stabilize families through strength-based case management, Parent Academies, and by connecting families to basic needs resources and services. More than 3,500 families benefitted from resources, parenting classes, activities, and case management services.
