Mission

The mission of sustainable food center is to cultivate a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. Sfc envisions a food-secure community where all children and adults grow, share, and prepare healthy, local food.

Situations that could be potential conflicts of interest are presented to the board president, then to the board of directors for discussion using the sfc conflict of interest policy as a guideline. The decision by the board of directors is final.

Initial compensation for the executive director is discussed and approved by the board of directors. The following are taken into account: relevant work experience and accomplishments, industry knowledge, education, professional training, participation in the local community and market surveys. Subsequent changes in compensation, other than cost of living adjustments, are recommended by the executive committee, and approved by the board of directors.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The Center is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and has not been classified as a private foundation as defined in the IRC. Income generated from activities unrelated to the Centers exempt purposes is subject to tax under IRC Section 511. The Center had no unrelated business income for the year ended June 30, 2024. Accordingly, no provision has been made for federal income tax.GAAP requires the evaluation of tax positions taken in the course of preparing the Centers tax return and recognition of a tax liability (or asset) if the Center has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the Center, and has concluded that as of June 30, 2024, there are no uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability (or asset) or disclosure in the financial statements.
