Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 4

The organization revised the bylaws to include a city liaison to the board of directors as an ex-officio memeber appointed by the city. The city liaison shall be the parks and recreation director for the city of san antonio, or other city staff member as identified by the city manager from time to time. This position will be filled on an ex-officio basis and will not require a vote of the board of directors, any vacancy will be filled by the city manager and not by the board of directors, and such person will not be subject to removal for a failure to attend three meetings in succession.

The federal tax return on form 990 is prepared by the organization's independent public accounting firm. It is then reviewed by the chief executive director and chief financial officer before signing and filing with the internal revenue service.

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 4:

Collections consist of works of art, historical treasures and similar assets held as part of a collection for the purposes of education, research, or public ehibition, rather than for sale or financial gain. Collections which were acquired through purchases and contributions since the society's inception, are not recognized as assets on the consolidated statements of financial position. Contributed collection items are not reflected on the consolidated financial statements. The collections are subject to a policy that requires the proceeds from sales of collection items to be used to acquire other items for collections.

PART V, LINE 4:

Endowment funds consists of four funds established to support operations and education. Rj coffey animal fund: funds are to be used for the purchase and replacement of animals, birds, fish and reptiles for the san antonio zoo, the construction of new improvements at said zoo, and for purposes of maintenance at said zoo. Zoo education endowment fund: funds are to be used to support the education department in bringing disadvantaged youth and families to visit the zoo, connect with nature and engage in our mission. Zoo operations endowment fund: funds are to be used to provide operational support for the zoo. Heb scholarship endowment for will smith zoo school: the purpose of this fund is to provide tuition scholarships for the school.

PART X, LINE 2:

Uncertain tax provisions, if any, are recorded in accordance with accounting guidance for income taxes, which requires the recognition of a liability for tax provisions taken that do not meet the more likely than not standard that the position will be substained upon examination by the taxing authorities. There is no liability for uncertain tax positions recorded at december 31, 2024 and 2023.
