Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The daughters has a collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, artwork, maps, microfilm and other memorabilia along with furniture, decorative furnishings and accessories, related to the history of texas that is available to the general public for viewing. Drt has adopted a policy of not capitalizing the collection in its financial statements. Accordingly, no collection items are recognized as assets, whether they are purchased or received as a donation. Purchases of collection items reduce net assets in the period when purchased. Proceeds from sales or insurance recoveries are recorded as increases in net assets when received. Various staff are employed to ensure that the collection is protected, preserved and made accessible to the public. It is the policy of the daughters that the proceeds from the sale of any collection items are to be used to purchase additional collection items. No items were purchased or removed from the collection during the fiscal year ended may 31, 2019 (audited) and 2018 (unaudited).

PART III, LINE 4:

The drt has a collection of books, manuscripts, photographs and artwork, maps, microfilm, and other memorabilia related to the history of texas that is available to the general public. Various staff are employed to ensure that the collection is protected, preserved, and made accessible to the public at the various drt locations.

PART IV, LINE 1B:

By legislature of the state of texas, the drt became custodians of the french legation. The drt was to maintain the properties in good order and repair, without charge to the public or state. The drt set up separate funds to account for the assets and profits of the custodial property. Since they constitute state funds, not drt funds under current texas statutory law, the french legation property remains the property of the state and title is held by the texas facilities commission. Thus, none of the french legation's data is reported on the drt's form 990, part x. During the tax year, custodianship transferred to the texas historical commission.

PART V, LINE 4:

Drt permanent endowment fund consists of donor-restricted funds. As required by its governing document, the corpus is to be invested in perpetuity with only the investment income and net appreciation to be used as follows: 10% to be added back to the corpus and 90% to be used for operating purposes. Living legacy endowment fund consists of donor-restricted funds. As required by its governing document, the corpus is to be invested in perpetuity. Investment income and net appreciation is to be added back to the corpus until it reaches $10,000. Upon reaching $10,000, the investment return can be used for operating purposes, at the discretion of the board of management. As of may 31, 2019 (audited) and 2018 (unaudited), the living legacy endowment fund had not reached $10,000. Mary power memorial fund consists of donor-restricted funds. As required by its governing document, the corpus is to be invested in perpetuity with only the investment return to be used for general purposes. Meta emily vibrock creppon trust - the fund was established through a bequest to drt for the sole purpose of publishing books. As required by the governing document, the corpus is to be invested in perpetuity. Investment income may be used for the selection of books to be published. All investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated. Kate harding bates parker endowment fund - the fund was established by the donor as a memorial for operational support. Any investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated. Lavinia griffith memorial fund - the fund was established by the donor as a memorial to promote the study of texas history, to encourage the respect of the history of the founders of the state of texas, and to preserve the books, documents, and papers that record texas history. Five percent of the investment income is to be allocated to the permanent endowment. The remaining ninety-five percent of investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated. Herpich restoration and conservation fund - the fund was established by a donor for the purpose of art restoration and paper conservation. The investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated. June franklin naylor fund - the fund was established through memorials to provide the annual awards for the best book for children on texas history and to pay the expenses of the selection process. Five percent of the investment income is to be allocated to the permanent endowment. The remaining ninety-five percent of the investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated. Virginia m. Law fund - the fund was established by a donor as a memorial with the purpose of providing an annual award for the most distinguished book on texas history for young adults. The investment income is temporarily restricted until appropriated. Vivian a. And william b. Rudisill, jr. Memorial fund - the fund was established by the donor as a memorial. The corpus is permanently restricted, but investment income can be used to meet the needs of the library.

PART X, LINE 2:

The most significant tax positions of drt are its assertion that it is exempt from income taxes and its determination of whether any amounts are subject to unrelated business income tax (ubit). Management has determined that drt had no activity subject to ubit during the fiscal years ended may 31, 2019 (audited) and 2018 (unaudited). All significant tax positions have been considered by management and it has been determined that it is more likely than not that all tax positions would be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities.
