The process for determining compensation of the organization's ceo, executive director, or top management official, as well as that of any other officers or senior executives (if any), is directed by a related organization. The related organization's board committee responsible for compensation oversees the process, utilizing independent delegees within the organization as appropriate, depending on the role. In some cases, the process may utilize comparability data and analysis from a national third-party compensation firm; or, if more appropriate for the role, it may instead utilize other applicable sources of market comparability data as needed to verify reasonableness. The process also includes contemporaneous substantiation of the analysis and decision regarding the compensation arrangement. Compensation is reviewed at least annually and the process is administered to assure independence, avoid conflicts of interest, ensure reasonableness and market comparability of total compensation, and to otherwise abide by pertinent laws and regulations.

During the return preparation process, the tax department works with other functional areas which may include, as needed, finance, accounting, treasury, legal, human resources, and corporate compliance for advice, information and assistance in order to prepare a complete and accurate return. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 180 VOLUNTEERS (NOT INCLUDING NON-COMPENSATED DIRECTORS LISTED IN FORM 990, PART VII) WHICH GAVE 13,817 HOURS OF SERVICES THROUGHOUT 4 OF THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN HEALTH SYSTEM FACILITIES: ST. JOHN MEDICAL CENTER, ST. JOHN BROKEN ARROW, ST. JOHN OWASSO, AND ST. JOHN SAPULPA. VOLUNTEERS SERVE IN AREAS SUCH AS SURGERY WAITING, PATIENT DISMISSALS, FLOWER DELIVERY, GIFT SHOPS, PEDIATRICS, PET THERAPY, PASTORAL CARE VISITORS, AND MANY MORE. BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, AND IN ORDER TO KEEP OUR VOLUNTEERS SAFE, THE VOLUNTEERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SERVE INSIDE OUR HOSPITALS FROM MARCH 15, 2020 UNTIL NOVEMBER 15, 2020. WE HAVE RESTORED SOME VOLUNTEERS TO SERVICE WHERE LEADERSHIP FELT VOLUNTEERS COULD SERVE SAFELY AND WHERE VOLUNTEERS WOULD BE HELPFUL. NEARLY ALL THE MONEY IS RAISED FROM THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN AUXILIARY GIFT SHOPS. THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN AUXILIARY, INC. FIRMLY BELIEVES IN INSPIRING OUR YOUTH THROUGH OUR JUNIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHADOW DOCTORS AND NURSES AND LEARN ABOUT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN MEDICINE AND NURSING, AND VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO AREAS OF THE HOSPITALS. THIS PAST YEAR WE HAD 52 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM 37 AREA HIGH SCHOOLS AND SOME OF THE STUDENTS WERE HOMESCHOOLED. THE STUDENTS SERVED 2,169 HOURS OF SERVICE. ADDITIONALLY, 128 ADULTS SERVED 11,648 HOURS OF SERVICE. As part of the Ascension Catholic health ministry, the filing organization served in support of Ascension's commitment to both care for patients and communities and support caregivers and other associates through the challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic in FY20 and FY21.
