Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The agency fulfilled this mission by providing a hand up to 4,139 such persons in the okc metro area. Those helped included families and individuals receiving case management, transportation assistance, rent and utility assistance, emergency travel assistance due to domestic violence and human trafficking, and replacement/retrieval of legal documents like birth certificates and driver licenses needed for employment, housing, and public assistance. These forms of help made it possible for referred clients who are homeless or on the verge of becoming so to complete the programs of referral agencies and obtain and/or preserve their place called home. Our goal is to not only place them on a path to self-sufficiency but to place them on a path to sustainable self-sufficiency.

To prevent generational proverty through community collaboration, emergency relief and empowerment, therefore inspiring hope with our neighbors experiencing housing instability.

PART IV, LINE 2B:

The give more fund is a charitable fund created to provide short-term financial assistance to employees of buy for less, inc. (bfl) during time of unavoidable financial hardships. This charitable fund is funded through employee donations and discretionary contributions. Outside donations are accepted as well. Bfl collects contributions to the fund and distributes the contributions to upward transitions, inc. Who manages and administers amounts held in the fund, and disperses amounts from the fund in accordance with the policies of the fund.

PART V, LINE 4:

Upward transitions, inc. Has a fund set up as an endowment at oklahoma city community foundation. Upward transitions has not placed restrictions or stated specific purposes for said funds other than to provide for future operations.

PART X, LINE 2:

Upward transitions has been determined not to be a private foundation under section 509(a) of the internal revenue code (the code) and is exempt from taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the code. It could be subject to taxation if it generates income unrelated to its exempt purpose, pursuant to the code.

FOR THOSE WHO DO OWN THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION AND CAN SHOW PROOF OF A DRIVER'S LICENSE AND AUTO INSURANCE, WE WILL ISSUE GAS CARDS FOR SOCIAL SERVICE AND MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS AND/OR THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY SECURED EMPLOYMENT AND REQUIRE ASSISTANCE TO PURCHASE FUEL UNTIL THEY RECEIVE THEIR FIRST PAYCHECK. GAS CARDS WERE ISSUED TO 26 CLIENTS DURING FY21. FOR THOSE WITHOUT THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION, WE ISSUE BUS PASSES. BUS PASSES WERE ISSUED TO 362 CLIENTS FOR JOB INTERVIEWS, SOCIAL SERVICE AND MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, AND TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WORK. TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE IS ALSO PROVIDED TO PERSONS WHO ARE STRANDED AND THOSE WHO ARE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR HUMAN TRAFFICKING. THOSE WITH THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION ARE ISSUED GAS VOUCHERS AND THOSE WITHOUT ARE PROVIDED WITH BUS TICKETS TO THEIR DESTINATION; THEREBY RECONNECTING THEM WITH THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEMS.MANY OF THE CLIENTS SERVED COME TO UPWARD TRANSITIONS (UT) TO OBTAIN BIRTH CERTIFICATES OR GOVERNMENT IDENTIFICATION CREDENTIALS. FIVE HUNDRED FORTY-SEVEN (547) BIRTH CERTIFICATES WERE ORDERED, 445 WERE RECEIVED AND 355 WERE PICKED UP BY CLIENTS; AN 79.8% PICK UP RATE. SEVEN HUNDRED FOUR (704) GOVERNMENT IDENTIFICATION CARDS OR REPLACEMENT DRIVER LICENSES WERE AUTHORIZED AND 344 CLIENTS PICKED THEM UP; A 48.9% PICK UP RATE. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT FIRST STEP IN ACCESSING HOUSING ASSISTANCE, EMPLOYMENT, AND PUBLIC ASSISTANCE.UT'S RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PAID THE FIRST MONTH'S RENT MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR TWO (2) HOUSEHOLDS WITH 2 PEOPLE TO OBTAIN HOUSING AND PAID PAST DUE RENT FOR 625 PEOPLE LIVING IN 231 HOUSEHOLDS TO HALT EVICTION. UT'S RENTAL DEPOSIT PROGRAM MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR 62 PEOPLE IN 26 HOUSEHOLDS TO OBTAIN PUBLIC HOUSING AND 16 PEOPLE IN 9 HOUSEHOLDS TO OBTAIN PRIVATE HOUSING. UT'S UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PRESERVED OR RESTORED ELECTRICITY, GAS AND/OR WATER FOR 300 PEOPLE LIVING IN 98 HOUSEHOLDS.IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE OCTOBER 2020 ICE STORM, MORE THAN 200,000 RESIDENTS IN THE OKLAHOMA CITY METRO WERE LEFT WITHOUT POWER. DURING NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER, UPWARD TRANSITIONS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER UNITED WAY AGENCIES AND OGE COORDINATED EMERGENCY RELIEF SERVICES TO MORE THAN 2,726 INDIVIDUALS SEEKING EMERGENCY LODGING, FOOD, FUEL CARDS, AND HOME REPAIRS.

THESE FORMS OF HELP MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR REFERRED CLIENTS WHO ARE HOMELESS OR ON THE VERGE OF BECOMING SO TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAMS OF REFERRAL AGENCIES AND OBTAIN AND/OR PRESERVE THEIR PLACE CALLED HOME. OUR GOAL IS TO NOT ONLY PLACE THEM ON A PATH TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY BUT TO PLACE THEM ON A PATH TO SUSTAINABLE SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

TYPICALLY, 65 VOLUNTEERS STAFF THE BOOTHS FROM 10AM TO 10PM 365 DAYS A YEAR, SPENDING NEARLY 5,000 HOURS SERVING MORE THAN 115,000 VISITORS A YEAR.
