Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Inspired by gospel values, the society of st. Vincent de paul, a catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, blessed frederic ozanam, and patron, st. Vincent de paul. As a reflection of the whole family of god, members, who are known as vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age, group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings, and adherence to a basic rule. Organized locally, vincentians witness god's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The society collaborates with other people of goodwill in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them vincentians see the face of christ.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

The st. Vincent de paul pharmacy has one not for profit member, the st. Vincent de paul baton rouge council.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

The non profit 501(c)(3) st. Vincent de paul baton rouge council is the member who elects the members of the governing body.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Once the draft is completed by our auditors, it is presented to the board before being finalized and submitted.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The purpose of following the procedures outlined in the society of st. Vincent de paul codes of conduct and conflict of interest policies is to complement st. Vincent de paul's bylaws to prevent the personal interest of staff members, board members, and volunteers from interfering with the performance of their duties to st. Vincent de paul, or resulting in personal, financial, professional, or political gain on the part of such persons at the expense of st. Vincent de paul or its members, supporters, and other stakeholders. According to the conflict of interest policy, a conflict of interest is defined as a conflict, or the appearance of a conflict, between the private interest and official responsibilities of a person in a position of trust. Persons in a position of trust include staff members, officers, and board members of st. Vincent de paul. The monitoring and enforcement of the conflict of interest policy includes the requirement of the interested party to make full disclosure, by notice in writing, to the full board of directors in all conflicts of interest. Following full disclosure of a possible conflict of interest or any condition outlined in the conflict of interest policy, the board of directors shall determine whether a conflict of interest exists and, if so, the board or its executive committee shall vote to authorize or reject the transaction or take any other action deemed necessary to address the conflict and protect st. Vincent de paul's best interest. An interested member, officer, or staff member shall not participate in any discussion or debate of the board of directors, or of any committee or subcommittee thereof in which the subject of discussion is a contract, transaction, or situation in which there may be a perceived or actual conflict of interest. However, they may be present to provide clarifying information in such a discussion or debate unless objected to by any present board or committee member. Anyone in position to make decisions about spending st. Vincent de paul's resources (i.e., transactions such as purchases/contracts) - who also stand to benefit from that decision - has a duty to disclose that conflict as soon as it arises (or becomes apparent); s/he shall not participate in any final decisions.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board reviews levels of compensation of similar positions to ensure similar compensation to other non-profit organization executives in the area. The ceo reviews current compensation of all key employees and reviews compensation levels based on performance. The decision is included in the budget process which is ultimately approved by the board.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under this guidance, the organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities for the year ended september 30, 2021. The organizations file income tax returns in the u.s. Federal tax jurisdiction. With few exceptions, the organizations are no longer subject to federal income tax examinations by tax authorities for years before 2017. Any interest and penalties assessed by income taxing authorities are not significant and are included in general and administrative expenses in these financial statements.

IRS990/MissionDesc0INSPIRED BY GOSPEL VALUES, THE SOCIETY OF ST.
