Mission

Partnering with corrections facilities, community-based and faith-based organizations to provide educational services to assist in expanding and improving support programs for the incarcerated, the ex-offender and their families.

Refined By Fire Ministries, Inc. (RBF) was established in 1989 having been founded by Michael, Elain and Arianne Ellerbe. The organization was incorporated in 1995 as a non-profit organization with an initial mission to provide religious programming in adult and juvenile corrections facilities. In the past 15 years, the organization has seen its mission expand to now encompass a focus on re-entry activities to include pre-release and post-release life skills educational programs for those offenders approaching release dates and returning to their families and communities in which they will, hopefully, rebuild their lives as well as providing resources and services to families of the incarcerated. RBFs mission is to:partner with corrections facilities, community- and faith-based organizations to enhance and expand life skill educational programs to assist the incarcerated, the returning citizen, and under-resourced individuals as well as families impacted by the criminal justice system, in accessing needed resources to experience success upon release and improve their quality of life.The vision of the organization is to ensure that the incarcerated as well as segments of the states under-resourced population who are at-risk of committing crimes leading to incarceration are provided sufficient resources to re-direct their lives through educational life-skills programs as they strive to be restored to their families and become contributing members of their communities. Through Reentry Benefiting Families, the mission and vision of the organization is being carried out in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, the Louisiana State Police, and the Pointe Coupee Sheriffs Office. RBF has also provided programming in Louisiana juvenile detention centers through its nationally recognized, Break the Chain . . .Build A Bridge program. Resources Benefiting Families, RBFs community-based initiative has partnered with the District Attorneys office, Truancy Court and District Court judges as well as the school system to provide life skills to include parenting, financial literacy and the solutions to poverty curriculum, Getting Ahead In A Just Getting By World.Our organization is innovative and goes where no organization has gone before. . .First of its kind intensive Nurturing Parenting and Inside/Out Dad evidenced-based parenting programs introduced in Louisiana correctional facilities, these programs are now offered statewide and provide educational good time creditsFirst of its kind in state Read to Me Daddy/Mommy video project video taping incarcerated parents reading a book to their child and presenting book and DVD to childFirst of its kind in state Marriage & Relationship Seminars for incarcerated men and their significant othersFirst of its kind in the state Intensive Solutions to Poverty/Financial Empowerment training for incarcerated men as well as corrections staff, program provides educational good time creditsFirst organization in state to be recognized by aha!Process, Inc. and to be awarded a National Consultant/Trainer Licensee designationFirst of its kind in state clothing donation program in collaboration with national mens clothing chain, Mens Wearhouse providing suits for men releasing from prison since 2007Only agency that has stepped forward to provide their own resources to support the under-resourced parents with parenting skills and supports for families at no charge, a belief that RBF maintains to dateFirst of its kind reentry program for a local detention center building towards a best practice model that can be replicated across the state and U.S. and funded by private funding, no local or state assistance is provided$155,806-
