Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Partnering with corrections facilities, community-based and faith-based organizations to provide educational services to assist in expanding and improving support programs for the incarcerated, the ex-offender and their families.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Over 2000 offenders including families of offenders were provided programs and services. In an effort to reconnect incarcerated fathers to their children in meaningful ways, the Read to Me Daddy Project was launched in Spring, 2008. Filmings of 50 fathers representing 75 children have taken place to date. Subsequent filmings are planned and the program has gathered national attention. Family reunification projects, such as this, according to national statistics, helps insure success for the offender and his family.Through the Marriages That Matter program, incarcerated men and their significant others can participate in separate relationship building classes offered to men incarcerated at Dixon Correctional Institute and for their female partners at Key Foundations located in Baton Rouge. Mid-Summer of 2008, a second facility Phelps Correctional Institute in DeQuincy, Louisiana began providing these classes also. Our staff is certified and highly experienced in providing life skills to incarcerated populations ex-offenders as well as their family members. Topics include: Money Management, Job Readiness Skills, Substance Abuse Education, Parenting, Communications and Victim Awareness. Financial Literacy is at the very core of healthy families and communities. A basic understanding of money, and how it works in todays society, is crucial to a persons ability to develop assets. The development of assets, large or small, is the very first step to increasing family stability, encouraging better consumer habits, and eventually increasing an individuals stake in the health and wealth of a community. To that end, Refined By Fire Ministries, Inc. has recently embarked on a financial literacy (money management) program to assist families in becoming more knowledgeable in how to manage their money and stretch their resources. This was done through the nationally recognized Bridges Out of Poverty and Getting Ahead in a Just Getting by World curriculums.RBF, in collaboration with Men's Wearhouse and the Louisiana Department of Corrections, will serve as the conduit for "gently-worn" suits to be given to offenders releasing from state prisons. Through a national campaign, Men's Wearhouse has established a suit donation program to assist individuals who are in need of interview and work clothing. A state of the art website, www.rbf.la, that includes a resource directory listed by regions of the state providing information about social services, employment, crisis intervention, housing and other resources to meet the needs of offenders and their families has been completed.$57,190-
