Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The contemporary arts center is a multi-disciplinary arts center that is dedicated to the presentation, prdoduction, and promotion of the art of our time. The cac is a cultural leader. As such, it organizes, presents, and tours curated exhibitions, performances, and programs by local, regional, national, and international artists. It demonstrates proactive local and regional leadership by educating children and adults, cultivating and growing audiences, and initiating and encouraging collaborations among diverse artists, institutions, communities, and supporters. Our vision is that the contemporary arts center in new orleans be a multidisciplinary arts center nationally recognized as a leader in the presentation and support of contemporary arts, artists, and emerging art forms. In doing so, it will explore and involve the diverse cultures of our communities.

To provide public access to contemporary art. The contemporary arts center is a multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to presenting the works of local, national and international artists. The center offers a year-round calendar of exhibitions, performances, and educational programs designed to engage diverse public audiences of all ages, while providing technical development support for local artists.

In march of 2020, the cac was forced to shut it doors due to the covid pandemic. All performances and the spring exhibition were postponed until further notice. The cac switched to virtual performances and gallery showings. Once the covid restrictions are lifted, the cac will go back to normal programming.

PART III, LINE 4:

The contemporary arts center, as policy, does not buy and sell art. However, throughout the years, several "permanent" installations have been crafted as fixtures within the building. These fixtures are maintained for public exhibition.

PART X, LINE 2:

The center is exempt from income taxes under irc section 501(c)(3), though it is subject to tax on income unrelated to its exempt purpose, unless that income is otherwise excluded by the code. The center has processes presently in place to ensure the maintenance of its tax-exempt status; to identify and report unrelated income; to determine its filing and tax obligations in jurisdictions for which it has nexus; and to identify and evaluate other matters that may be considered tax positions. The center has determined that there are no material uncertain tax positions that require recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The center is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that is unrelated to its exempt purpose. The center files an exempt organization business income tax return (form 990-t) with the irs to report its unrelated business taxable income.

THE CAC WAS HOST TO AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR A PARTNER ORGANIZATION WHICH BROUGHT IN HUNDREDS OF LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND NATIONAL ARTISTS. THE CAC ALSO INCORPORATED VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES DURING THE SPRING SEASON DUE TO THE PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS BUT STILL WAS ABLE TO HAVE A BROAD OUTREACH.
