Mission

The emerge center empowers children with autism and individuals with communication challenges to achieve independence through innovative and family-centered therapies.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Testing and evaluations: our audiologists offer both conventional hearing testing (audiometry) and play/visual reinforcement audiometry (for children). Otoacoustic emissions testing and tympanometry (checking the middle ear) are also available.hearing and assistive listening devices: the baton rouge speech and hearing foundation has two programs available to provide financial assistance for hearing aids. Depending on an individual's income, they may qualify for the starkey hearing foundation program or funds made available through the united way to help purchase hearing aids. Both of these programs have helped individuals in the baton rouge area receive quality digital hearing aids at a reduced cost. The starkey hearing foundation has partnered with hundreds of clinics all over the country and we are proud to say that we are of the top 5 clinics in the country who provide hearing aids through this program. Medicare will not pay for hearing aids, so for elderly patients on a fixed income these programs allow them a way to receive the gift of hearing at a severely reduced cost.our audiologist offers hearing aid fittings for both digital and analog hearing aids. The audiologist is able to repair a variety of hearing aids and assistive listening devices. Our audiologists can help clients learn to use their hearing aids or assistive listening devices to gain maximum benefit.hearing protection and related products: our audiologists can make customized ear molds to protect children and adults in work, sports or leisure pursuits.troubleshooting for cochlear implants: brshf's staff audiologist is one of very few in baton rouge certified to provide maintenance and services for patients with cochlear implants. As the nearest programming audiologists for cochlear implants are in new orleans and lafayette, this is a crucial service we are able to offer, so patients with cochlear implants can schedule routine mainenance checkup appointments without having to leave town.
Activity 3
Comprehensive developmental assessments and education diagnostic services (eds) are available to assess the child's abilities in the areas of social, cognitive, adaptive and motor development. Our educational diagnostician uses a battery of standardized tests in combination with parental input to assess the child's skills developmentally. From this assessment, a developmentally appropriate program can be planned. Early steps therapy and assessments: with the information from the eds, we will provide individual therapy with the child and the family to help create a learning environment that enhances cognitive, language and social skill development of the student.

THERAPY IS PROVIDED AT THE FOUNDATION CLINIC OR IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS SUCH AS DAY CARE CENTERS, SCHOOLS OR OTHER COMMUNITY AGENCIES. FOR CHILDREN UNDER THREE YEARS OF AGE, THERAPY CAN BE PROVIDED AT HOME THROUGH THE EARLY STEPS PROGRAM.GROUP LANGUAGE THERAPY FOR PRESCHOOL CHILDREN: ONE UNIQUE PROGRAM IN THE ARRAY OF SPEECH-LANGUAGE THERAPY SERVICES OFFERED AT BATON ROUGE SPEECH AND HEARING FOUNDATION IS THE GROUP LANGUAGE THERAPY PROGRAM. GROUP THERAPY PROVIDES INTENSIVE SPEECH AND LANGUAGE STIMULATION TO SMALL GROUPS OF PEERS IN THE CONTEXT OF A TYPICAL PRESCHOOL "ROUTINE", WITH AN EMPHASIS ON LISTENING AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS, VERBAL LANGUAGE AND VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT, LANGUAGE USE FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS AND OVER A VARIETY OF CONTEXTS, AND SOCIAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT. PROVIDING LANGUAGE THERAPY WITHIN A SMALL PEER GROUP IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO ADDRESS A CHILD'S OVERALL COMMUNICATION SKILLS, ALLOWING THE THERAPIST TO TARGET LANGUAGE USE AND SOCIAL INTERACTION IN WAYS THAT ARE NOT POSSIBLE IN THE TRADITIONAL INDIVIDUAL THERAPY MODEL. THERAPIST DESIGN LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES TO MEET THE SPECIFIC DELAYS EXHIBITED BY EACH CHILD IN THE GROUP. ACTIVITIES ARE INTEGRATED INTO A NORMAL PRESCHOOL ROUTINE TO MAXIMIZE LANGUAGE LEARNING THROUGH ROUTINES AND SOCIALIZATIONS.
