“Local economy: the columbia gorge earth center (cgec) supports a wide network of locally-owned, sustainable, and community-oriented businesses in the columbia river gorge. Cgec's member-based support network provides mission-based marketing and practical tools to connect conscious consumers to businesses that contribute to the good of our communities. Go local helps customers easily identify locally owned businesses and creates opportunities for them to connect with one another, ensuring that more money stays in our local economy. Cgec also houses the leaders for tomorrow (lft) program. Through face-to-face contact with local business, government and community leaders, students discover what it means to build a community.”

“Vibrant communities: the sense of place lecture series fosters a deeper understanding of connections to our landscape and to each other. This annual series continues to deliver interesting, meaningful lectures that bring us closer to the human and natural history of the columbia river gorge. Each lecture draws, on average, over 100 people looking to build a greater connection with the place they call home. Hear in the gorge is a series of radio-documentary styled podcasts that tell compelling and under-recognized stories of the cultural history and life in the columbia river gorge region, home to a landscape that inspires and a community that shares a deep connection to the region and to each other. These podcasts are audio companions to the acclaimed sense of place lecture series. They highlight archival audio, as well as storytelling from locals and experts, creating gripping and moving nonfiction narratives about the columbia river gorge and its heritage. Bridging the gorge is a coversation series designed to bring people together for facilitated coversations exploring these local dynamics and ways to connect more deeply with our neighbors across difference and distance.”
