DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Our special events/programs were extremely well attended despite the lingering forest fires during the season. CRIA introduced two new events in 2018, Stories at Sunset and a geology tour. Both events had multiple dates each and were very well received and attended by the public. They provided much needed additional funding for the operating budget. CRIA plans to continue those two events in 2019.Due to the forest fires and the forest closure, visitation was down to the monument in June, July, and August. May and September were up in visitation without the smoke. CRIA was the host of a public lands round-table in April 2018 where stakeholders from around S.W. Colorado attended to discuss the economic impact that recreation in public lands have on our regional economy. The group discussed various topics on how we can collectively work together to make our needs known to our state representatives in light of the forest closure and fires and the impact it had on all of us that rely on tourism. We had our strongest annual donation drive through Colorado Gives Day ever doubling our goal. CRIA secured funding through a community service grant from the Town of Pagosa Springs for the first time. The town granted us the full amount of $10,000 showing their support of our efforts and what CRIAs program brings to the local economy. CRIA also received an additional $2,500 through the Town of Pagosa Springs tourism board for advertising. CRIA hosted four volunteer recruiting open houses in the spring and was able to secure over 20 new volunteers and retain them, which is the strongest retention we have had in a few years. Recruiting volunteers was the number one goal the organization had for 2018. The volunteer base took a hit in 2017 with many volunteers aging out from volunteering.$121,695-
