Colorado food pantry network and farm to food pantry initiative the colorado food pantry network (cfpn) was formed by hfc to build a system to enable food pantries to work together in meeting the needs of those facing hunger and on behalf of the communities they serve. Hfc helped develop a system of online communication and annual gatherings to allow food pantries to share operational best practices and other resources. This proved particularly impactful as covid-19 began affecting food supplies, and food pantries were forced to quickly pivot to new models of food acquisition and distribution. The cfpn also successfully advocated for state legislative funding totaling 10,000,000 for the food pantry assistance grant program in 2020 and 2021. Hfc continued to work with the cfpn this year to build ongoing opportunities for obtaining local, nutritious food through a farm to food pantry initiative. Hfc hired and supported five regional coordinators to coordinate local food procurement for food pantries and coordinate logistics between regional food producers and food pantries. Hfc hires regional food coordinators in five areas across the state including the denver metro area, southwest colorado, eastern colorado, northwestern colorado, and on the western slope. Food pantries were able to obtain additional funding through the food pantry assistance grant to purchase healthy, fresh food from local producers. Regional food coordinators also facilitated joint bulk purchases among food pantries which reduces prices, enables food pantries to obtain higher quality local food while also supporting local economies and agriculture.

Advocacy: gathering input and seeking engagement of those impacted by hunger, hfc's advocacy helped secure: -more than 10 million in state funding for the food pantry assistance grant program that supported more than 100 food pantries -the state transition from a pandemic-ebt application process to a benefit auto-issuance using school district data which led to 126,000 more children receiving pandemic-ebt benefits than in the previous year -a temporary 15% increase in snap benefits, which boosted support for more than 500,000 colorado snap households and eventually led to a permanent increase in snap benefits - a temporary increase in wic benefits that helped 80,000 households with young children

The organization follows the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes accounting standard which requires the organization to determine whether a tax position (and the related tax benefit) is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority, based solely on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefit to be recognized is measured as the largest amount of benefit that is greater than fifty percent likely of being realized upon settlement, presuming that the tax position is examined by the appropriate taxing authority that has full knowledge of all relevant information. During the year ended june 30, 2021, the organization's management evaluated its tax positions to determine the existence of uncertainties, and did not note any matters that would require recognition or which may have an affect on its tax-exempt status.

HFC HELPED DEVELOP A SYSTEM OF ONLINE COMMUNICATION AND ANNUAL GATHERINGS TO ALLOW FOOD PANTRIES TO SHARE OPERATIONAL BEST PRACTICES AND OTHER RESOURCES. THIS PROVED PARTICULARLY IMPACTFUL AS COVID-19 BEGAN AFFECTING FOOD SUPPLIES, AND FOOD PANTRIES WERE FORCED TO QUICKLY PIVOT TO NEW MODELS OF FOOD ACQUISITION AND DISTRIBUTION. THE CFPN ALSO SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATED FOR STATE LEGISLATIVE FUNDING TOTALING 10,000,000 FOR THE FOOD PANTRY ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM IN 2020 AND 2021. HFC CONTINUED TO WORK WITH THE CFPN THIS YEAR TO BUILD ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES FOR OBTAINING LOCAL, NUTRITIOUS FOOD THROUGH A FARM TO FOOD PANTRY INITIATIVE. HFC HIRED AND SUPPORTED FIVE REGIONAL COORDINATORS TO COORDINATE LOCAL FOOD PROCUREMENT FOR FOOD PANTRIES AND COORDINATE LOGISTICS BETWEEN REGIONAL FOOD PRODUCERS AND FOOD PANTRIES. HFC HIRES REGIONAL FOOD COORDINATORS IN FIVE AREAS ACROSS THE STATE INCLUDING THE DENVER METRO AREA, SOUTHWEST COLORADO, EASTERN COLORADO, NORTHWESTERN COLORADO, AND ON THE WESTERN SLOPE. FOOD PANTRIES WERE ABLE TO OBTAIN ADDITIONAL FUNDING THROUGH THE FOOD PANTRY ASSISTANCE GRANT TO PURCHASE HEALTHY, FRESH FOOD FROM LOCAL PRODUCERS. REGIONAL FOOD COORDINATORS ALSO FACILITATED JOINT BULK PURCHASES AMONG FOOD PANTRIES WHICH REDUCES PRICES, ENABLES FOOD PANTRIES TO OBTAIN HIGHER QUALITY LOCAL FOOD WHILE ALSO SUPPORTING LOCAL ECONOMIES AND AGRICULTURE.
