Activity 2
The Sunset Strip Business Association (SSBA) is a nonprofit corporation run by Sunset Strip business owners in West Hollywood with approximately 200 members comprised mainly of businesses in the hotel, restaurant, retail, valet/parking and nightclub industries. Created in 2002, its directive is to manage the Sunset Strip Business Improvement District (BID) under contract with the City of West Hollywood. The goal of the Association is to provide security, street maintenance, public outreach and marketing of "The Strip."The SSBA contracts with Block-by-Block to provide up to 10 uniformed, highly visible security personnel who provide a presence on Sunset Boulevard seven nights per week. Working closely with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and the City of West Hollywood, the Sunset BID Security Ambassadors aim to improve the quality of life for residents and member businesses. Security Ambassadors are responsible for completing daily activity reports. The following are the results for 2011/12 (July - March: Visitor Assistance - 18,295; Business Contacts - 5,212; Homeless Outreach Contacts - 201; and Motorist Assistance - 456.The SSBA contracted with Social Vocational Services (SVS) to supply additional cleaning and maintenance services to the Sunset Strip BID. SVS employees provided street cleaning along the entire length of the District on Sunset Boulevard and into the adjoining neighborhoods five days per week - Wednesday through Sunday. During 2011/12 (July - March) SVS collected 2,325 bags of trash.

Market the "Sunset Strip"The SSBA works with member businesses to promote and market The Sunset Strip throughout the year with press releases, media pitches, special promotions and events. Some PR campaigns that received media attention included:Sunset Strip GuitarTown - A public art exhibit that features 10-foot tall art guitars placed along the boulevard that celebrate The Sunset Strip's history. GuitarTown also provides visitors an interactive walking tour of the boulevard. The guitars have also helped increase foot traffic with visitors stopping to take photos with the guitars. Thirteen guitars were launched last Spring featuring work by renowned artists Shepard Fairey, Tristan Eaton, DeeKay, and Free Humanity and includes works that celebrate Van Halen, Buffalo Springfield, the Black Eyed Peas, Jane's Addiction, and Rage Against The Machine. The unveiling event received coverage from ABC News, Channel 11 News, Fox News, Getty Images, and GuitarWorld. Slash attended the event and presented a check to Los Angeles Youth Network Sunset Strip Holiday Guides - SSBA asked all businesses to send any seasonal events for inclusion in releases and pitches for media throughout the year - Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, New Year's Eve. A master list of events occurring along The Sunset Strip was created and sent to media outlets. A sampling of media that have publicized Sunset Strip holiday events include: KCAL/KCBS local news, JustLuxe.com, Examiner.com, Where LA and Patch.com. The Facebook ad campaign generated more than 426,000 impressions during the two weeks leading up to New Year's Eve. Sunset Strip Market - Launched in June 2011, the weekly certified farmers' market features organic and conventional California growers as well as artisan food purveyors takes place Thursday nights 5-9 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood public lot (8755 Sunset Blvd.) The Market also features live acoustic entertainment, wine tasting, chef dinners and chef shopping program. The goal of the Market is to build community and further economic development. The weekly event attracts 750 people. Los Angeles Times, Patch.com, LA weekly, eater.com, Grub Street and Zagat have covered the event. Sunset Strip Record Swap - Held in partnership with KLOS and Record Collector News at the former home of Tower Records on July 9, 2011. The goal of the event was to attract attention and patrons to The Strip. Record Swap featured more than 40 Vinyl Record Vendors and 100,000 records. KLOS conducted a live broadcast from the event. Nearly 500 people attended the event. Examinar.com, LAist, Weho Patch, LA Daily News and Huffington.com covered the event. Social Media - SSBA aggressively promoted The Sunset Strip as wells as the programs, activities and events through its social media efforts. Facebook fan page for The Sunset Strip has 25,000+ fans and SSMF has nearly 28,000 fans. Twitter accounts @TheSunsetStrip and @SSMF have more than 34,000 followers. The Sunset Strip Facebook ads have received more than 9.2 million impressions. Sunset Strip VIP All Access Pass - VIP All Access Program designed to encourage travelers to stay at Sunset Strip hotels. Hotel visitors from the Andaz West Hollywood, The Grafton, The London West Hollywood, Mondrian, The Standard Hollywood, Sunset Plaza Best Western and the Sunset Marquis were entitled to free admission to the live entertainment venues on The Sunset Strip, including: The Comedy Store, Key Club, House of Blues, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room, the Rainbow and Whisky A Go-Go. TheSunsetStrip.com - The official online resource for information and news on restaurants, shows, shopping, nightlife and everything that is The Sunset Strip. The website featured Sunset Strip Picks - Weekly picks showcasing the "top" shows and entertainment events on The Strip. Additional content includes weekly "Street Beat" photo galleries, monthly "Faces of Sunset Strip" interviews with local personalities, interviews with artists and a calendar of events.

IRS990/Description0Sunset Strip Music Festival, LLCThe Sunset Strip Business Association is the managing partner of the Sunset Strip Music Festival, LLC (SSMF). Created to promote, perpetuate and preserve The Sunset Strip music experience, SSMF has grown into a world-class event. The fourth annual Music Festival occurred August 18-20, 2011. On Thursday August 18 at House of Blues, the fest kicked off with a tribute to Motley Crue. Friday, August 19 featured performances by Ray Manzarek & Robby Krieger of The Doors (Whisky), Buckcherry (Roxy) Dredg (Key Club), Motion City Soundtrack (HOB), Purple Melon (Viper) and LoL-Apalooza (The Comedy Store). On Saturday, August 20, The Sunset Strip was closed between San Vicente Boulevard and Doheny Drive to accommodate two outdoor stages, food and merchandise vendors, outdoor VIP tent and approximately 15,000 attendees. Featured bands included Motley Crue, Bush, Public Enemy, Matt & Kim, Cobra Starship, She Wants Revenge, Escape The Fate, The Dirty Heads, Black Veil Brides, Tribal Seeds, Rye Rye, Voxhaul Broadcast, Felix Cartal, Semi Precious Weapons, Pigeon John, Letlive, Warner Drive, Divinity Roxx, Deluka, The Limousines, Sabrosa Purr, Them Jeans, plus 50 more. The music festival received coverage in local, national and international media outlets, including Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, OK!
