Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Equality california institute (eqcai) is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is exempt from state franchise taxes under section 23701(d) of the california and revenue taxation code, whereby only unrelated business income as defined by section 509(a)(1) of the internal revenue code, is subject to federal income tax. Eqcai does not believe that during the years ended december 31, 2023 and 2022 that it had any unrelated business taxable income and accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been recorded in the accompanying financial statements. Eqcai follows the provisions of fasb asc 740-10, income taxes, and related subsections. Accordingly, eqcai accounts for uncertain tax positions by recording a liability for unrecognized tax benefits resulting from uncertain tax positions taken, or expected to be taken, in its tax returns. Eqcai recognizes the effect of income tax positions only if those positions are more likely than not of being sustained by the appropriate taxing authorities. Eqcai does not believe that its tax exempt income tax filings include any uncertain tax positions and accordingly, has not recognized any liability for unrecognized tax benefits in the accompanying financial statements. Eqcai is subject to potential income tax audits on open years by any taxking jurisdiction in which it operates. The statute of limitation for federal purposes is three years and state purposes is four years.

IRS990/Desc0PUBLIC EDUCATION: EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE CONDUCTS PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGNS FOR LGBTQ+ PEOPLE AND OUR ALLIES, WITH THE AIM OF IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF CARE FOR LGBQ+ PEOPLE IN HEALTHCARE, SCHOOL, AND OTHER SETTINGS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CALIFORNIA'S OFFICE OF COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS, WE CONDUCTED OUTREACH ON HIGH PRIORITY ISSUES FOR THE STATE, INCLUDING WATER CONSERVATION, SAFETY IN EXTREME HEAT, AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS. OUR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION TRAINING OFFERS HEALTHCARE AND HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS TRAINING ON LGBTQ+ IDENTITIES AND BEST PRACTICES FOR SUPPORTING LGBTQ+ CLIENTS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, OUR TEAM IS WORKING TO DEVELOP AN ONLINE LGBTQ+ TRAINING FOR 7-12TH GRADE CERTIFICATED STAFF IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES, EQUALITY CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE PROVIDES LGBTQ+ PEOPLE WITH INFORMATION AND RESOURCES DESIGNED TO AID THEM IN PREPARING FOR EMERGENCIES AND NATURAL DISASTERS. THE REAL IMPACT CAMPAIGN PROVIDES LGBTQ+ PEOPLE WITH INFORMATION AND RESOURCES FOR REDUCING THE HARM OF OPIOID USE WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES. OUR TGI NARRATIVE CHANGE PROJECT WORKS TO COMBAT MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION ABOUT TRANSGENDER IDENTITIES, AND OUR REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE FOR TGI COMMUNITIES CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS TGI PEOPLE SEEKING ACCESS TO SEXUAL HEALTH AND REPRODUCTIVE CARE.
