THIS INCLUDES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN SUCH AS THE CHALLENGER LEARNING CENTER, AN INTERACTIVE SPACE MISSION SIMULATOR CONSISTING OF A REALISTIC MISSION CONTROL AND SPACECRAFT - ALL THREE MISSION SCENARIOS SIMULATE AN ENTIRE NASA EXPLORATION MISSION FROM LAUNCH TO ACHIEVING THE MISSION OBJECTIVE. Powerhouse Science Center has served the greater Sacramento region for over 65 years, bringing hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) experiences to school aged children in grades K 8 and the general public. We host over 40,000 public, private and home school children annually, representing over 452 schools in 17 counties. 40% of students come from economically disadvantaged populations, 30% come from Title 1 schools, and 65% of students self-identify as other than Caucasian. Our school programs include laboratories, workshops and outreach programs, which are aligned to CA Next Generation Science Standards, planetarium shows, the Challenger Learning Center, and a unique archaeological dig. Opened 337 days per year, the general public and members attend weekend programming and have access to our current exhibition.
