“Note 1 - egg rescue program- organizes local farmers and volunteers to collect abondoned waterfowl eggs. The eggs are taken to an incubation site. North delta conservancy has successfully incubated, raised, banded and released nearly 8,000 wild ducks back into the pacific flyway. Note 2 - education outreach- educate students by publishing an informacional coloring book geared toward the young. Inform the adults of the scramento river delta region by publishing a periodic newsletter. The publications develop a connection with and inform the community of the efforts to balance the needs of the communityu and the need fot conservation. Each year an essay contest is held and ascholarship awarded to the school of the winning graduation high school student. Note 3- habitat conservation -north delta conservancy has signed habitat conservation leases on approximately 162 acres of private property voluntarily taken out of production by land owners for habitat purposes. The owners are paid 100 - 125 per acre to flood at least 50% of the property and plant seed and cover crops on th ebalance for nesting opportunites adn feed sources. The property must be flooded from november through april. In most cases the land is not farmable. Note 4 - wood duck nesting project - additional nest boxes were put up to provide a place to nest. There were nearly 2000 ducklings hatched in 2016.”
