DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Launched a monthly Recycling Pop-Up program in 2024 with support from the Ford Environmental Funds. In just eight months, LimPiaR's Recycling Pop-Up series in Loíza-supported by the Municipality of Loíza, local schools, and educational partners, TAIS Composting, and Estuario de la Bahía de San Juan-diverted over 8,200 lbs of recyclable materials from landfills and engaged 436 residents and students through hands-on environmental education. Each event includes hands-on education booths and community engagement, inspiring dramatic month-over-month growth. What began with just 27 lbs. in November 2024 surged to over 2,300 lbs. by May 2025. Installed and maintained a 24-yard community recycling container in Loíza-a municipality with no curbside recycling. This container, serviced by IFCO-PR, provides residents from Loíza and surrounding municipalities with year-round access to proper disposal of plastics and aluminum. Since installation in 2022, we have diverted more than 15,000 lbs. of recyclable materials from landfills and waterways. Helped secure and co-manage a $100,000 NOAA grant to construct a bioretention garden in Piñones. The project reduces flooding, filters stormwater runoff, and prevents debris from entering the ocean-an important climate resilience and marine debris mitigation strategy aligned with Eco-Leader principles. Delivered ecological education across sectors, including public schools, businesses, community centers, and volunteers. We have reached over 5,000+ citizens via webinars, tailored workshops, and at public events, teaching sustainable waste management, waste reduction, sustainability, and coastal stewardship. These efforts serve as an entry point for future Eco-Leaders. Created the Puerto Rico Waste Reduction Guide-a 17-page digital local resource guide and directory for individuals, businesses, and schools outlining practical, accessible strategies for sustainable living. The guide is free and widely shared as part of our educational toolkit. Coordinated the "Deja Una Huella Limpia en Piñones" campaign in partnership with San Juan Bay Estuary Program. This public awareness initiative has engaged 20+ local businesses and reached 1,000+ citizens, via installation of educational signage, a landing page, and social media content; offering information about environmental stewardship and waste reduction practices relevant to local public policy, reinforcing key lessons for the Eco-Leader training. Expanded our virtual classroom as a foundational part of our Eco-Leader Training Program. In April 2025, we hosted a 4-part sustainability webinar series that attracted 254 participants, more than half of whom were students. This digital education strategy allows us to reach remote and underserved communities island-wide.$123,472$92,424

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0The delay in filing this return was due to unforeseen medical issues affecting the organization's Certified Public Accountant, who is also responsible for the preparation and timely filing of the return. These medical circumstances significantly impaired her ability to manage compliance deadlines. Additionally, the preparer mistakenly believed that a timely extension had been requested. Upon realizing the oversight, immediate steps were taken to complete and file the return as soon as possible. The organization has acted in good faith and respectfully requests that any penalties be abated based on reasonable cause. Measures have since been taken to ensure timely filing in the future.
