In pursuit of its mission and purpose, the land trust acquires conservation land and conservation easements through purchase or donation. The land trust also works in partnership with other organizations and government entities to acquire and protect important conservation land. Acquisition transactions may include real estate transaction and legal costs. During consideration of land acquisition projects, the land trust meets with landowners, and visits each property to ensure the land offers conservation values aligned with the mission of the organization. Thorough due diligence is completed during each land acquisition transaction. Tvil ensures that properties acquired and held for conservation stewardship have thorough baseline documentation as a part of the acquisition process, are monitored at least annually to ensure their protection and have adequate liability insurance coverage. Annual membership in the land trust alliance is maintained. Tvil maintains accreditation with the land trust alliance accreditation commission. Tvil maintains its corporate standing with the government of the us virgin islands. A website and social media presence is maintained, and landowners and the general public are provided with information about options for land protection and stewardship. Administrative guidelines recommended for best practices for land trust operations are followed.
