THE CENTER WAS DEVELOPED USING THE VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE MODEL, BUT HAS EVOLVED TO EXPAND ON THIS MODEL TO BE A QUALITY PRECEPTOR FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN UNDERSTANDING COMMUNITY MEDICINE. WHICH EMPHASIZES THE USE OF MEDICAL, DENTAL AND LAY VOLUNTEERS TO CARE FOR THE UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED WITHIN A CULTURE OF CARING, SO THAT EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY HAS ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE. THE PROGRAM HAS EXPANDED TO INCLUDE PRECEPTING MEDICAL AND DENTAL STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE EXPERIENCE IN COMMUNITY MEDICINE. |
