Each speaker event being planned in 2024 for 2025 consists of a panel of local and nationally known speakers, national speakers toured our city to inform the speaker's knowledge to relate the subject of their discussions to the local context. Annual Reshaping Rochester Awards: Arriving at its 14th year, this event provides an opportunity for CDCR to recognize individuals and projects that have a lasting positive impact on the built environment in the Finger Lakes Region. Each project is rated on the excellence of the building/development/planning effort, how it has solved an urban design problem, and its impact on the surrounding community. Individuals are also honored for their advocacy and passion to move a difficult endeavor forward that leads to visible changes in a community. Community Planning and Design Engagement: Since our inception, CDCR has organized and facilitated more than 30 design charrettes and over 40 planning and design exercises, ranging from design studies to comprehensive design guidelines throughout the Finger Lakes region. The most recent effort was the update to the El Camino Community Revitalization Plan. A collaborative community engagement workshop held on October 19, 2024, led to the revision of the original 2016 vision plan for the El Camino neighborhood. This updated plan serves as a guide for proposed improvements to the built environment. It acts as a catalyst for infill housing, commercial corridor redevelopment, and the creation of pocket parks, bike lanes, traffic-calming measures, and more.Additionally, as CDCR works alongside community volunteers over several months, the process naturally fosters capacity-building. This extended engagement builds trust, encourages the exchange of information, and provides opportunities for education and community empowerment. In, May of 2024, CDR led the High Falls State Park public design charrette. Bringing together the community for a leadership breakfast and a full day community design charrette with over 100 community participants. The outcome of these events culminated in the High Falls State Park Design Workshop Final Report dated August 26, 2024. A comprehensive report provides an opportunity to reflect on the aspirations of community members-especially the dream of creating a space where disadvantaged communities can connect with a natural wonder in the heart of our city. Engagement of the community in the parks design process is continuing today with the Final Report being a blueprint for these discussions. In July 2024, CDR led a public design charrette for the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum, a non-profit organization located in Rush, NY. The museum is home to the largest collection of historic trains in New York State and is the only operating railroad museum in the state. The organization sought to develop a comprehensive master plan to guide its future growth. A full-day, on-site workshop was held on July 12, 2024, with a final report scheduled for release in 2025.This planning process provided an opportunity to reflect on over eighty years of preserving Rochester's rail heritage, with a renewed focus on advancing the museum's goals for accessibility and sustainability. | $0 | $88,871 |
