Mission and Program Overview

Mission

1) for the second year in a row, sfbc supports bso lead summer camp - sheriff gregory tony tasked members of his command staff to develop the broward sheriff's office youth l.e.a.d. (learning, educating, and developing) camp as an innovative eight-week summer program designed to help build broward county youth into strong, responsible, and civically engaged young adults. "as i grew, i met officers who left a positive lasting impression on me," sheriff tony said. "they were not just nameless, faceless people in uniforms responding to incidents; they were friends, mentors, and leaders. These experiences prompted me to want to do the same for broward's youngest generation." bsoylc, in partnership with the historically black greek letter organizations that make up the broward county national pan-hellenic council, will provide youths ages 10 to 18 with the life skills education and support network needed to reach their full potential while focusing on the following seven pillars of success:

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The mission of the sheriff's foundation of broward county (sfbc) is to provide moral and financial support to families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty and to fund programs of the sheriff's department, seek to maintain the public safety and improve the quality of life for all citizens in broward county, either directly or by contributions to organizations that are otherwise unfunded and qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and regulations issued under it, as they now exist or as they may hereafter be amended.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Tthe sheriff's foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1999, and the four pillars of our mission are: -manage restricted federal funds for anti-terrorism initiatives of the broward sheriff's office; -collect and manage donations to memorial funds for the benefit of the surviving families of broward sheriff's deputies and fire rescue personnel killed in the line of duty; -fund and support indispensable training programs for broward sheriff's office personnel not funded under the county's budget; and -fund and support crime prevention/civic education programs of the broward sheriff's office and other local nonprofit organizations. Anti-terrorism regional domestic security task forces were created by the florida legislature (florida statute 943.0312) after the terror attacks of 9/11. In 2002, the sheriff's foundation of broward county (sfbc) received a 2 million federal award to fund region 7 of the regional domestic security task force. The sheriff's foundation oversees the expenditure of funds specifically donated for use by the domestic security task force under florida statute section 943.0312. Fallen heroes/memorial funds since 1999, the sheriff's foundation of broward county (sfbc) has been instrumental in the lives of the surviving family members of fallen bso deputies and firefighters. One of the pillars of sfbc's mission is to provide moral and financial support to the families of those killed in the line of duty. Sfbc also oversees memorial funds created by bso, concerned citizens, and other entities to fund and support special bso programs for the benefit of the community. Training programs and initiatives the sheriff's foundation of broward county (sfbc) supports and funds bso training needs by providing financial support for programs designed to enhance competence and leadership within the agency. Sfbc also funds bso law enforcement initiatives designed to fight crime and improve public safety. Crime prevention/civic education the sheriff's foundation of broward county (sfbc) provides opportunities for the community to meet the sheriff and interact with bso personnel to learn more about their mission, training, and equipment. All citizens of broward county are cordially invited to become members and learn more about law enforcement. Sfbc also seeks to maintain public safety and improve the quality of life for all citizens in broward county, either directly or indirectly, by funding public safety initiatives of bso and other nonprofit organizations serving the broward community. Sfbc currently funds and supports the following bso crime prevention programs: shopping with the sheriff has become holiday wonderland during the pandemic: the traditional shopping with the sheriff has resumed. Every december, sfbc partners with bso to treat children from across the broward county gift-giving spree; the sheriff and staff buy gifts to give to children and families as they drive by the public safety building. The youth and neighborhood services division and bso school resource deputies select deserving children from school programs across broward county. Unless postponed because of covid-19 restrictions, sfbc continued to fund operation medicine cabinet: the goal is to prevent drug abuse. Shred-a- thon: the goal is to prevent identity theft. The sheriff's foundation, in partnership with bso, funded prescription medication disposal events combined with shredding events in the fiscal year 2021-2022 across broward county to promote the safe disposal of unused, unwanted, or expired medications and to safely dispose of personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts and any other material that might contain sensitive information. These events are free to the public. Sfbc also funds and supports crime prevention programs of the following non-profit organizations: handy (helping abused neglected disadvantaged youth): the sheriff's foundation continued its partnership with handy and donated 5,000 to its
