Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Gator wilderness camp school serves males ages 10-15 years old who are significantly struggling to be successful in their homes, schools, and communities. All participants in the program must choose to enter the program as a step one in recognition of their need for help and positive change in their lives.

Gator wilderness camp school is a year-round camping program designed specifically to serve adolescent boys from the ages of 10-15 years old. This group of boys is significantly struggling to interpret a myriad of issues in their families, schools, and communities. We are a private, non- profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to sharing christ's unconditional love with families and their sons. It is the goal of gator wilderness camp school to pursue relationships with those in need and to offer a navigational beacon of hope and healing in the name of christ.

Gator wilderness camp school is a year-round camping program designed specifically to serve adolescent boys from the ages of 10-15 years old. This group of boys is significantly struggling to interpret a myriad of issues in their families, schools, and communities. We are a private, non- profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to sharing christ's unconditional love with families and their sons. It is the goal of gator wilderness camp school to pursue relationships with those in need and to offer a navigational beacon of hope and healing in the name of christ.

Many of the boys enrolled are given the opportunity to experience academic success and achievemnet, which is rewarding. Gator wilderness is recognized by the charlotte county school district as a private school and offers title 1 reading tutoring, as needed, to all students. The school has been a member of the florida mckay scholarship program and step up for students since 2010. While in the camp program, students have the opportunity to plan and build their own living structures through the use of hand tools and they plan multiple week canoe and/or backpack trips to geographical areas of specific group interest including the everglades, suwannee river, and the southern appalachians. Currently, the camp program is serving 25 boys from southwest florida with 120 boys graduating from the program since its opening in september, 2009.

The organizations's status as a tax exempt not-for-profit entity is considered a tax position subject to reporting requirements under fasb accounting standards codification 740-10. THIS GROUP OF BOYS IS SIGNIFICANTLY STRUGGLING TO INTERPRET A MYRIAD OF ISSUES IN THEIR FAMILIES, SCHOOLS, AND COMMUNITIES. WE ARE A PRIVATE, NON- PROFIT, 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO SHARING CHRIST'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE WITH FAMILIES AND THEIR SONS. GATOR WILDERNESS IS RECOGNIZED BY THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AS A PRIVATE SCHOOL AND OFFERS TITLE 1 READING TUTORING, AS NEEDED, TO ALL STUDENTS. THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE FLORIDA MCKAY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND STEP UP FOR STUDENTS SINCE 2010. WHILE IN THE CAMP PROGRAM, STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAN AND BUILD THEIR OWN LIVING STRUCTURES THROUGH THE USE OF HAND TOOLS AND THEY PLAN MULTIPLE WEEK CANOE AND/OR BACKPACK TRIPS TO GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS OF SPECIFIC GROUP INTEREST INCLUDING THE EVERGLADES, SUWANNEE RIVER, AND THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS. CURRENTLY, THE CAMP PROGRAM IS SERVING 25 BOYS FROM SOUTHWEST FLORIDA WITH 120 BOYS GRADUATING FROM THE PROGRAM SINCE ITS OPENING IN SEPTEMBER, 2009.
