“The foundation is a non-profit corporation, exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and accordingly, generally would not incur income taxes. As a result, the financial statements do not reflect a provision for income taxes. The foundation records a liability for uncertain tax positions when it is probable that a loss has been incurred and the amount can be reasonably estimated. At june 30, 2015, the foundation has no liabilities for uncertain tax positions. The foundation continually evaluates expiring statutes of limitations, audits, proposed settlements, changes in tax law and new authoritative rulings. The u.s. Federal jurisdiction is the major tax jurisdiction where the foundation files income tax returns. The foundation is generally no longer subject to u.s. Federal examinations by tax authorities for fiscal years before 2012.”

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | A DAY MADE BETTER:IN LATE 2014 AND EARLY 2015, THE OFFICE DEPOT FOUNDATION CARRIED OUT A MAJOR INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO RECOGNIZE TITLE I AND OTHER HIGH-NEED ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR THEIR DEDICATION AND THE WORK THAT THEY DO TO INSPIRE CHILDREN TO LEARN. KNOWN AS A DAY MADE BETTER, THE PROGRAM ENABLED ASSOCIATES FROM LOCAL OFFICE DEPOT AND OFFICEMAX STORES ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO DONATE SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND OTHER ESSENTIAL ITEMS, CHILDREN'S BOOKS AND TREATS FOR TEACHERS AT SCHOOLS IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. THE SUPPLIES AND OTHER ITEMS WERE DONATED THROUGH THE OFFICE DEPOT FOUNDATION'S CARING IS SHARING PRODUCT DONATION PROGRAM AS WELL AS BY VENDORS AND SUPPLIERS. THE PROGRAM WAS CARRIED OUT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FEED THE CHILDREN, WHOSE VOLUNTEERS PACKAGED THE ITEMS INTO SPECIAL A DAY MADE BETTER BOXES. APPROXIMATELY 1,800 SCHOOLS WERE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM. IN ADDITION, SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS WERE MADE TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT OFFER AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN 16 CITIES. (A DAY MADE BETTER CONTINUED THE LEGACY OF A SIGNATURE PROGRAM THAT HAD BEEN OPERATED BY THE OFFICEMAX CHARITABLE FOUNDATION PRIOR TO THE COMPANY'S MERGER WITH OFFICE DEPOT.) |
