“Fully accredited by sacs (southern association of colleges and schools) and operating as an independent non-profit 501(c)(3), kesher is possibly the largest program of its kind in america. It is unique in the southestern united states in including it students on a day school campus - the samuel scheck hillel community day school and the ben lipson hillel community high school in north miami beach. Being integrated with hillel provides our students with incusion opportunities, access to school resources including media centers, library, cafeteria and nurse, as well as opportunities to particapate with their typical-learning peers in physical education, art and music programs. In addition, our students take part in grade-wide field trips, special activities, and celebration of jewish holidays with their siblings, neighbors and age-appropriate peers enrolled at hillel. Kesher's special education program offers: - self-contained classroom - 3:1 student: teacher ratio - average class size of 8 students - head teachers and rabbis who hold degrees in special education - teaching methods & materials focused on each child's learning needs - individualized education plans, including parent/teacher conferences - day school inclusion - psychological services kesher has long endeavored not to turn away any child we can serve. Admissions are based on comprehensive recent psycho-educational testing and pre-enrollment interview with the educational director and the intake committee. Scholarship money is provided to the extent possible to families in need of financial assistance.”
