Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization has adopted the provisions of asc no 740, "accounting for uncertainty in income taxes" ("asc no 740"). Asc 740 required that the impact of tax positions to be recognized in the financial statements if they are more likely than not of being sustained upon examination. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes is made in the financial statements. At 6/30/21, there were no uncertain tax positions. The organization files tax returns with us federal and other tax authorities for which statue limitations may go back to the year ended 2018.

IRS990/Desc0FARM SHARE, INC. IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT WAS INCORPORATED UNDER THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA ON JULY 8, 1992 AS A 501C3 CORPORATION THAT IS TAX-EXEMPT UNDER THE PROVISION OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. FARM SHARE RECOVERS AND DISTRIBUTES ANNUALLY MORE THAN 119 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD, EQUATING TO OVER 99 MILLION MEALS THAT FEED MORE THAN 21 MILLION HOUSEHOLDS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF FLORIDA. FARM SHARE DOES THIS BY UTILIZING ITS NETWORK OF MORE THAN 2,000 STATEWIDE PARTNER AGENCIES AND FLEET OF SEMI-TRUCKS AND REFRIGERATED BOX TRUCKS. 90% OF FARM SHARE'S FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH ITS PARTNER AGENCY NETWORK OF FOOD PANTRIES, SOUP KITCHENS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. FARM SHARE ALSO HOLDS NEARLY 1000 ANNUAL DIRECT COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTION EVENTS THAT FOCUS ON DISTRIBUTING HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO FOOD DESERT COMMUNITIES STATEWIDE. FARM SHARE ACCOMPLISHES ALL OF THIS WHILE MANAGING TO KEEP ITS ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS AT LESS THAN 1% OF THE VALUE OF ALL DONATIONS RECEIVED ANNUALLY. FARM SHARE IS THE STATEWIDE LEADER IN ACQUIRING AND DISTRIBUTING HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TO PERSONS IN NEED. THANKS TO OUR STRONG RELATIONSHIPS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH FLORIDA'S FARMERS WE ARE ABLE TO RECOVER OVER 40 MILLION POUNDS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES LAST YEAR THAT WOULD OTHERWISE NOT MAKE IT TO MARKET AND BE THROWN AWAY. THIS IS A WIN/WIN FOR THE FARMERS, HUNGRY FLORIDIANS AND THE ENVIRONMENT. FARM SHARE ALSO DISTRIBUTES ALL OF ITS FRUITS, VEGETABLES, CANNED GOODS AND PROTEINS FREE OF CHARGE TO BOTH ITS PARTNER AGENCIES AND FLORIDA FAMILIES IN NEED. OTHER FOOD BANKS CHARGE A "SHARED MAINTENANCE FEE" (SMF) AND/OR DELIVERY FEE AS A CONDITION OF RECEIVING THEIR FOOD. THESE COSTS CAN MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR LOCAL SOUP KITCHENS, FOOD PANTRIES, CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHERS TO ACQUIRE THIS FOOD TO FEED THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS ESPECIALLY AFFECTS THOSE AGENCIES SERVING THE POOREST COMMUNITIES THAT ARE IN THE MOST NEED. BY NOT CHARGING ANY FEES, FARM SHARE IS ABLE TO MAKE SURE THESE COMMUNITIES CONTINUE TO BE FED AND HAVE ACCESS TO LIFE SUSTAINING FOOD.FARM SHARE ALSO OPERATES AS A DISASTER RELIEF ORGANIZATION DURING TIMES AND IN AREAS AFFECTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS, MANMADE DISASTERS AND DRASTIC ECONOMIC DOWNTURNS IN FLORIDA. WE WORK ALONGSIDE FIRST RESPONDERS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS IN ORDER TO FEED INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES IN NEED IN DISASTER AREAS AS WAS THE CASE DURING PAST HURRICANES AND DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. AS PART OF OUR DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS WE ALSO COLLECT AND DISTRIBUTE NON-FOOD PRODUCTS SUCH AS CLEANING SUPPLIES, CLOTHING, SHOES, FURNITURE, BLANKETS, ETC DURING THE MOST RECENT COVID-19 PANDEMIC, FARM SHARE DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 4 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD EACH WEEK, AND OVER THE 12 MONTH PERIOD FROM MARCH 2020 TO MARCH 2021 DISTRIBUTED OVER 135 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD TO PERSONS AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC.IN ADDITION TO THE 119 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD THAT PASSES THROUGH ITS WAREHOUSES EACH YEAR, FARM SHARE ALSO HELPS GENERATE MORE THAN 10 MILLION POUNDS OF NON-PERISHABLE FOOD PRODUCTS AS A RESULT OF ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS. FARM SHARE HELPS TO LOGISTICALLY PLAN, COORDINATE, MARKET AND PROMOTE THIS ONE DAY FOOD DRIVE THAT GENERATES MILLIONS OF POUNDS OF FOOD THAT IS COLLECTED AND DISTRIBUTED LOCALLY BY PARTNER AGENCIES. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC THIS EVENT WAS POSTPONED THIS PAST FISCAL YEAR. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S FOOD BANKING ACTIVITIES, A LARGE PORTION OF ITS REVENUE AND EXPENSES RESULT FROM CONTRIBUTED FOOD & OTHER GOODS AND THEIR SUBSEQUENT DISTRIBUTION. CONTRIBUTED FOOD & GOODS ON-HAND AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR ARE HELD AS INVENTORY. DEPENDING ON THE TIMING OF THESE CONTRIBUTIONS AND DISTRIBUTIONS THIS SWING IN INVENTORY CAN CREATE LARGE NON-MONETARY GAINS AND LOSSES FROM FISCAL YEAR TO FISCAL YEAR.
