Mission

Building bridges has the overall mission of providing education, training, services, advocacy and promoting the rights and dignity of individuals infected and affected by hiv/aids.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Building Bridges provided support groups to participants as well as individual and group counseling from trained counselors to include psychologists and social workers. Support groups offered meals, transportation to appointments and meetings, medical, clinical, and practical advice to participants to help improve a sense of well-being and quality of life. In fiscal year 2011, 158 individuals participated in interventions.

Building Bridges, Inc. provided HIV education to individuals and the community through presentations at health fairs and outreach programs. In fiscal year 2011, the organization gave 73 HIV presentations reaching 939 people, received 400 referrals for services, and distributed over 7,000 contraceptives during the year serving approximately 5,000 people.

The completed Form 990 is provided to Board members sufficiently in advance of the filing deadline to enable a detailed and conscientious review by all members of the committee. All questions, concerns, etc., of the Board members are addressed and incorporated into the Form 990 as appropriate. After all of the input from the Board has been appropriately addressed, the CPA proceeds with the filing of the Form 990 using e-file or paper return procedures.

Disclosure is appropriate and required whenever conflicts of interest may occur. The written notices of disclosures are filed with the Executive Director or such other person designated to receive such notifications. At the meeting of the governing body, all disclosures of real or apparent conflicts of interest are noted for the record in the minutes.
IRS990ScheduleO/GeneralExplanation/Explanation2The Board of Building Bridges, Inc. is responsible for setting the compensation for newly hired or promoted employees who are classified by the organization as an executive or key employee, as well as recommending changes in compensation for such employees based on annual review of performance. Only individuals that do not have a conflict of interest with respect to the compensation arrangement at issue are involved. The Board is responsible for reviewing and approving the compensation for all executive and key employees of the organization (CEO, CFO and any other employee(s) in order to ensure compliance and review pursuant to IRS 990 mandates). Additional responsibilities also include the management of the performance review and compensation determination process for the CEO of the organization. Recommendations for salary and benefits are based on a review of comparability data for similarly situated organizations. The Board meets independent of the CEO to discuss performance relative to the position description. The Committee keeps confidential (Board only) minutes of the meetings and discussions relative to executive and key employee compensation. The justification for recommended adjustments is appropriately documented.
