“Program Service Accomplishment:The Mississippi Urban Forest Council continued its dedication to the Urban & Community Forestry Training & Certification Program. MUFC certified 520 citizens and planted over completed 24 community landscaping project throughout Mississippi. Several new programs through MUFC include the Mississippi Arboretum Trail and the Flower Growers of Mississippi. Over 2500 people have joined the farm production initiative by participating in farmer educational classes. Over 22 communities are working with MUFC on creating local arboretums. MUFC also continued to maintain the Scenic Communities of Mississippi Program. Under this program, citizens and localities are provided a resource guide ranging from grants to educational websites and even to local programs all in an effort to continue the initiative of providing natural resources and landscapes within urban sectors. MUFC continued to be the only organization in the state to certify cities with the Urban Forest Certification Program Award. These cities must meet six criteria for qualification and must be reviewed by MUFC for the award. MUFC has also currently established 16 Edible Forest in MS urban settings. The latest new program is Mississippi Pollinators for Food Security, working with farmers and communities on how to support beneficial insect to support our agricultural production. Primary Exempt Purpose:To foster and promote proper management of urban forests for social, economic, and environmental benefits to people through innovation, leadership, communication, and educational services.”
