Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Casa's mission is to provide trained community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who come to the attention of juvenile court primarily due to allegations of abuse and neglect.

To recruit, train and supervise volunteers who work directly with the abused and neglected children whose case is being adjudicated by juvenile court. Volunteer court appointed special advocates interview all of the people involved with the children, collect medical and educational records, make home visits and ultimately make fact-based recommendations regarding the safest and most permanent place for the children to live. The recommendations are presented to the court in a written court report. Sometimes the volunteers are required to testiy in court hearings. Each volunteer has a staff supervisor as a resource throughout the case.
