Cma is a trade association that promotes country music. Several membership tiers are offered to ensure all professionals at different stages in their career can participate through membership. Cma members receive a variety of member benefits including, professional development, health care resources, industry voting privileges, networking opportunities, research, etc.

Professional voting members have the opportunity to vote for the cma awards and for the elected board of directors.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The 990 is posted to the board website for all board members to review and a review session open to all board members is held before it is filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

A quarterly board report is prepared detailing payments made to board members or their companies. This report is reviewed by the senior vice president of finance and administration. At the end of the year, the complete report is reviewed by the chief executive officer and senior vice president of finance and administration. This report is provided to the finance and audit committee quarterly.

The personnel committee, which is comprised of members of the executive committee of the board, determines the ceo's compensation. Typically, this committee works with an external human resources consulting group to obtain information regarding compensation for ceos in similar size organizations. The ceo also utilizes external human resources consulting group to validate salary ranges for key employees. The ceo recommends compensation for key employees and it is subject to approval by personnel committee.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The association and foundation are exempt from federal income taxes under the provisions of internal revenue code section 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3), respectively, and, accordingly, no provision for income taxes is included in the consolidated financial statements, except for amounts representing unrelated business income tax. The association is also subject to tennessee franchise tax and a 6.5% excise tax on unrelated business income. Unrelated business income tax expense was not significant during 2025 and 2024. The organization recognizes the tax benefit associated with a tax position taken for tax return purposes when it is more likely than not the position will be sustained. The organization does not believe there are any material uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the consolidated financial statements. It is the organization's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to income tax matters in income tax expense. As of march 31, 2025 and 2024, the organization has accrued no interest and no penalties related to uncertain tax positions. The organization is generally subject to u.s. Federal and tennessee tax examination for three years from the date the return was filed.
