Form 990-ez, Part III

The institute to reduce spending engages in and promotes rigorous academic research and scholarship on the subject of federal spending and budgeting. We seek to create a national, nonpartisan dialogue regarding spending reform by presenting information in a publicly accessible manner.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Spendingtracker.org the institute compiled and tracked every congressional budget office score to show how much each member of congress has voted for and on what measures. We host the results on spendingtracker.org. To produce the latter, we contracted with designers and developers to produce and maintain a standalone site to show the results in real time.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

Guide for a strong america the institute conducted an original study collecting and summarizing all available options for reforming the pentagon budget. After consulting with experts, we displayed the results in a booklet as well as an interactive, user-friendly website that we promoted to congressional staffers, allies in the fiscally conservative community, and media. This included personal meetings, social media, web promotion, podcasts, and interviews.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

Research & public education the institute produced full-length research studies, regular policy briefs, and op-eds on various spending topics, with the goal of presenting complex policy easily and accessibly to a general audience. We produced the first original quantitative research on the us debt limit process, which became a published book. We also created the first original research on how the 1974 budget act has impacted federal spending and debt, ultimately publishing it in 12 journals. We also produced short pieces on agriculture policy, defense spending, budget reforms, transportation policy, and criminal justice reforms.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 31

Coalition building & outreach the institute fostered working relationships with other organizations, staff, and members of congress, in order to ensure our research reaches the largest possible audience. We have provided our original research on the debt limit, pentagon budget reform, and budget process to congressional staff and allies in the policy community.
