The collections included in the historic property have been conveyed into a perpetual trust directing that they be used for the sole benefit and use of the locust grove museum home."”

“The locust grove permanent collection consists of approximately 1660 items including late 18th and early 19th-century furniture, ceramics, metal objects of brass, silver and copper, prints, paintings, textiles, books,firearms, wooden and metal tools and domestic objects. To the extent possible, most furnishings are of ohio river valley origins supplemented with furnishings originating in other parts of the eastern u.s., relating to the geographic connections of the clark and croghan families. The furniture collection is considered by those in the field to be one of the finest of its type on public display in the upper south. The collection contains clark and croghan family portraits and miniatures, silver, books and original documents as well as military and personal artifacts of general george rogers clark. The archaeological collection contains more than 28,000 individual artifacts collected on the site since the 1960s, and is housed at the university of louisville, with a few representative pieces displayed in the site's exhibit gallery. The collections support the interpretive mission of the site, to present with the greatest accuracy possible the life of this family, the croghans, and those who lived and worked in their household, including enslaved african-americans. The centerpiece of this national historic landmark is the c. 1790 georgian-style twelve-room brick house. The house was built by william croghan, probably using the skills of regional artisans. The only remaining original outbuilding is a stone smokehouse. All other dependencies now on the property have been constructed on original foundations. The site also includes an important early stone wall, and cemetery enclosure (original materials but moved from its original site).”
