“As to board members, updates to the conflict of interest forms are completed annually with voluntary disclosure of conflict on any particular issue. There is no participation, discussion or vote taken on these; however, the hospital attorney is provided a copy of all interests of each member to ensure compliance with the policy. These are regularly and consistently monitored for any changes. As to employees, there is a written conflict of interest policy which too is regularly and consistently monitored and enforced by human resources and administration as necessary. This policy is intended to identify and resolve conflicts of interest which may occur related to financial, business, or professional interests. The policy is in place to identify and resolve a conflict of interest which may occur any time there is a situation in which one's ability to make objective, job related business decisions may be influenced by, or have the appearance of being influenced by, outside activities or personal interests. Potential conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Having an immediate family member or significant other employed by the pikeville medical center and working within the same direct line of authority (above or below) as the first employee. Immediate family members include spouses, ancestors, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters and the spouses of those individuals. The scope of this policy includes: pikeville medical center and all its departments and services wherever located. The covered individuals are to follow these procedures: 1. All management personnel shall complete a duality and conflict of interest form at the time of initial employment and annually thereafter. 2. Employee conflict of interest forms shall be filed in their personnel files. 3. In the event that an employee's job description or duties requires a business related decision to be made in an area in which a personal conflict of interest has been identified, the employee shall notify his/her supervisor to arrange for an alternative decision making process which will maintain objectivity and eliminate personal bias, i.e. Personal withdrawal from the decision making process, solicitation of closed bids, or utilization of an independent selection committee. 4. If an actual, apparent, or potential conflict of ethics is identified involving patient care or treatment, the employee should seek assistance from their supervisor to find a resolution which would have minimum impact on patient care, treatment, or services.”

“(continued) emergency department: leading the region in lifesaving, inclusive care with 45,513 patient visits last year, the emergency department (ed) remains one of the busiest in the region, serving as a critical lifeline for eastern kentucky and surrounding rural communities, where access to immediate care is often limited. Staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, nurses, and specialists, the ed is equipped to manage a wide range of emergencies, from strokes and heart attacks to pediatric and trauma emergencies. Rapid triage, integration with inpatient and specialty services, and cutting-edge diagnostics ensure patients receive timely, coordinated care when every second counts. A regional trauma leader in a landmark achievement, pmc became kentucky's only level ii trauma center, accredited by the american college of surgeons (acs). This elite designation confirms pmc's capacity to deliver advanced, immediate care for the most severe and complex injurieswithout needing to transfer patients out of the region. Last year, 1,164 trauma cases were treated through this program, supported by a 24/7 team of trauma surgeons, orthopedic specialists, neurosurgeons, and critical care professionals. Expanding to meet demand to support this elevated level of care, pmc has completed a multi-million-dollar, 23,000-square-foot expansion of the emergency department. The new layout enhances patient privacy and comfort and, most importantly, reduces waiting times and streamlines care delivery. Faster triage and treatment mean patients are seen more quickly by emergency physicians, translating directly into better outcomes and saved lives. Meeting the needs of aging populations pmc also earned geriatric emergency department accreditation (geda) at the bronze level from the american college of emergency physicians (acep). As the number of older adults rises, this certification ensures pmc meets national standards for senior-friendly emergency care reducing hospital admissions, improving communication, and prioritizing safe, dignified treatment tailored to older patients' needs. Pediatric and inclusive care innovation the ed is one of only four "pediatric ready" hospitals in kentucky, recognized by the ky emergency medical services for children (kyemsc) program. This designation ensures access to child-specific protocols, appropriately sized equipment, and providers trained in pediatric emergency care. A dedicated pediatric wing, featuring a calming, child-friendly design, further enhances the experience for young patients and their families. Pmc became kentucky's first certified autism center emergency department, a designation by the international board of credentialing and continuing education standards (ibcces). Staff receive specialized training to accommodate patients with autism, sensory sensitivities, and communication challenges, ensuring a safer, more compassionate experience for neurodiverse patients. A hub for time-critical interventions the ed also plays a central role in pmc's primary stroke center, enabling the rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke with advanced clot-busting therapies. The department acts as the front line for high-stakes emergencies trauma, cardiac, stroke, pediatric, and more connecting patients to specialized in-house services 24/7. Setting the standard for emergency care these milestones represent more than just clinical achievement; they reflect pmc's mission to deliver exceptional, accessible and inclusive emergency care to every corner of eastern kentucky. From seniors with chronic conditions to children with autism, from complex trauma cases to stroke interventions, pmc's emergency department is setting the standard, not just meeting it. As healthcare evolves, pmc continues to lead with bold investments, inclusive care models, and nationally recognized excellence, proving that world-class emergency care belongs in every community, especially the ones that need it most. “Committed to care: called to serve pmc's growth is about more than new buildings or advanced technology; it's about people. It's about the mother in rural letcher county who no longer has to travel for hours for her child's pediatric specialty care. The grandfather in floyd county is receiving cancer treatment close to home. A johnson county child with autism is thriving in a sensory-friendly therapeutic playground designed just for them. These aren't just stories, their lives changed by a vision brought to life. Through initiatives like the mettu children's hospital, ava autism centers, a dedicated pediatric emergency department, an accredited heart and vascular institute, and a nationally recognized cancer center, pmc is shaping a comprehensive continuum of care for every age and stage of life. New investments in preventive care, endocrinology, bariatric medicine and diabetes education are helping patients take ownership of their health, supported by compassionate professionals and modern, accessible services. At every step, pmc stays grounded in its mission: to serve with compassion in a christian environment and to be both the provider and employer of choice across the region. Looking ahead, our commitment remains strong. Pikeville medical center will continue to expand access, build trust and deliver world-class care - not just because it's needed, but because our communities deserve it. With innovation led by heart and progress powered by purpose, pmc isn't just advancing healthcare; we're changing lives.”
