The organization maintains a conflict of interest policy that is reviewed annually by the officers and board members.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

Prior to hiring the executive director, a hiring committee is formed composed of members of the board of governors and/or board of directors. This committee reviews the job description, and researches salaries and compensation for comparable positions with similar responsibilities in this region. The executive director receives an evaluation or review after the first six months and then annually each year after, during which time any additional compensation or salary increases are considered based on merit, pending board approval. The only other employee in the organization is the administrative and events assistant who reports directly to the executive director. This is a part-time, seasonal position and is therefore compensated based on time worked at an hourly wage. This compensation is determined based on a range of comparable rates for this type of position and the level of the employee's education and experience. The executive director researches similar positions in the region to determine an appropriate range of hourly compensation, also taking into consideration the distance it takes most non-island residents to travel, and daily bridge tolls paid.

Form 990

A large part of 2024 was spent working on enforcing our land use policy, which states:"the cca, in accordance with its mission, shall work with government authorities, property owners, and other associations to: 1.preserve the captiva environment including its mangrove wetlands and encourage the use of native vegetation. 2.maintain the strict limits on density and height as currently stated in the lee county comprehensive plan, and to oppose any exceptions sought through the variance process. 3.strictly enforce zoning and other regulations including those which have the effect of limiting traffic and excessive noise."the protect captiva coalition was formed and the cca's land use committee led the effort to protect captiva against regulation violations regarding building heights and density.

The captiva civic association annual program accomplishments include educational programs, public services, community informational presentations and forums, community-building activities, and wellness initiatives. Some examples are historical presentations, environmental and eco-science talks, community meetings concerning important local issues, workshops on medicare, memory impairment, and crime prevention, as well as special interest classes such as food and wine pairing, art exhibitions, and other arts performances. We also provide a venue for social gathering for community-building. In addition, we provide administrative office space for the captiva island historical society, the facility space for the captiva memorial library, and a residence for a lee county deputy sheriff and family. Our three largest programs are the art exhibitions (a series of four), wine and food pairing classes, and our community-building porch & patio series.
