Mission

The organization's primary purpose is to promote the development and understanding of science to students. Funds are used to provide services to participating students and adults statewide, according to the florida foundation for future scientists' mission and purpose.

ANNUALLY, MORE THAN 250,000 KINDERGARTENS THROUGH TWELFTH GRADE STUDENTS STATEWIDE PARTICIPATE IN SCIENCE FAIR EVENTS LEADING TO REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR (RSEF) PARTICIPATION. EVENTS USUALLY ARE HELD IN JANUARY. THERE ARE 37 GEOGRAPHICALLY DELIMITED REGIONS INCORPORATING 67 FLORIDA COUNTIES. MORE THAN 20,000 STUDENTS FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH TWELFTH GRADE EXHIBIT AT RSEF EACH YEAR DURING FEBRUARY AND MARCH. NEARLY 950 STUDENT FINALISTS IN GRADE SIX THROUGH TWELVE REPRESENTING 300 SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT FLORIDA EXHIBIT AT THE STATE-LEVEL EVENT HELD IN APRIL. AN ADDITIONAL 500 SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING PROFESSIONALS SERVE AS CATEGORY JUDGES. ANOTHER 400 ADULTS ARE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AWARD PRESENTERS, FACILITATORS AND CHAPERONS. MORE THAN 125 ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES, INDUSTRIES, ASSOCIATIONS, OR POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS PRESENT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS. IN MAY EACH YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 120 FLORIDA NINTH THROUGH TWELFTH GRADE STUDENTS COMPETE AMONG THE NEARLY 1,500 EXHIBITORS FROM ACROSS THE NATION AND AROUND THE WORLD. MORE THAN 100 ADULTS FROM FLORIDA ALSO ATTEND AS REGIONAL FAIR DIRECTORS, JUDGES AND PARENTS.
