The foundation is an independent nonprofit organization with a volunteer board of directors which primarily serves, flagler, putnam and volusia counties in east central florida. The foundation's purpose is to build a permanent resource of funds to help meet community needs today, and changing needs of future generations by encouraging philanthropic leadership, providing flexible endowment opportunities, and practicing financial stewardship of donated funds. Mission

The community foundation of east central florida, inc. ("the foundation") was established as a not-for-profit corporation in 2000. The foundation is an independent nonprofit organization with a volunteer board of directors which primarily serves, flagler, putnam and volusia counties in east central florida. The foundation takes very seriously it's conflict of interest policy. Every january, each board member, staff and volunteer are asked to read and sign the conflict of interest policy and our confidentiality policy. Each new staff and volunteer is asked to sign the policy the first day they either work or volunteer. Volunteers participating in a grant committee, finance committee, or other committees sign the conflict of interest policy each year.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Provide assistance to donors with their philanthropy. We build and hold endowed and non-endowed funds for individuals, corporations or groups who want to provide financial support to local non-prfit agencies doing good work they care about. During the last year we helped educate donors in our community about our services and opened or increased the donations into several funds held by the foundaiton. We assist donors making strategic and focused grants.

Line 2-proceedures for monitoring use of grant funds: as a community foundation it is important to involve the community in the grant process as much as possible. Often members of the community are invited to participate in grant committees when we need representation with specific knowledge of the community or area of interest in which we are making grants. The board of directors acts as the grant committee at times, or established a grant committee to act upon its behalf. The grant committee reviews the grant proposals that have been vetted by staff. Each grant proposal is reviewed for compliance with guidelines once all information has been submitted. The foundation committee and staff will give the proposal a thorough review and may conduct research, schedule a site visit, interview grantee staff and boards, or talk to experts in the field during the review process. The grant committee establishes set criteria to consider when reviewing grants, has written rating scales and makes the best decision possible to direct the grant dollars to projets that have the most community impact. Once the committee decision has been made, the committee recommendations are reviewed by the board of directors who have the final authority to make grant decisions. "request for proposals" are announced through newsletters, press releases, announcements at agency coalition meetings and communication media, our website and social media tools. Once grants are awarded, similar media is used to communicate our grant making and be transparent about our good work. Once a grant has been awarded, a contract is created that outlines the purpose of the grant as described in the propsal. Grantees will submit at a minimum, a year end report that reflects the success/failure of the grant, who it served and the financial accounting report of expenditures. It is the goal of the community foundation to help grantees reach their stated outcomes to address community change and is available to assist the grantee when requested as much as possible.
