IRS990EZ/ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp/DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt4Community Outreach - NAMI Pinellas' primary mission is focused on outreach by making mental health resources and information available to the community, free of charge. The primary outreach services offered through NAMI Pinellas are NAMI Signature programs, support groups, Education Meetings, community presentations/provider information, school presentations, two NAMI helplines, community information/resource vendor fairs, Crisis Intervention Team trainings for law enforcement and first responders, mental health advocacy efforts, and the dissemination of information through NAMI/mental health literature by means of meetings, hospital discharge packets, face-to-face interactions, etc. Additional efforts for outreach are made through weekly emails, social media, and this year, we promoted mental health awareness through a billboard for two week on Ulmerton and 49th St. N. CIT- Crisis Intervention Team is a concerted effort made by the community mental health centers, NAMI, and law enforcement to enhance the knowledge base of law enforcement officers and first responders to be able to assess a mental health crisis opposed to a criminal act. NAMI Pinellas assists with implementing C.I.T. education courses annually as a participant in the C.I.T. committee and presenters during the course. Seven classes we held during the fiscal year of 15-16, to approximately 241 law enforcement officers and other front line staff through this program in Pinellas County. This is in an effort to raise public and stakeholder awareness through education and outreach, establishing and disseminating recommended standards for developing, implementing and sustaining crisis intervention programs, providing assistance to communities interested in developing CIT programs, supporting research, improving public health and safety, evaluation of CIT programs and partnering with CIT programs in various localities to hold annual International CIT Conferences.
