Activity 2

Youth and family services:lsf's youth & family services helped 51,851 youth and families in crisis during the year. The overall goal is to reunite families torn apart by conflict. - residential youth shelters offer short-term housing for runaways and trouble youths ages 10-17. - cins/fins (children in need of services/families in need of services) provides individual and family counseling. - child welfare case management delivers protective services for children who are abused or neglected. The children may be under in-home protective supervision, placed with a relative or other caregiver, placed in an appropriate foster home, or placed in an adoptive home if parental rights are terminated. - teen court offers an opportunity for first-time youth offenders ages 10 to 17 to appear before a jury of their peers for sentencing or sanctions. - as a safe place agency, lsf partners with local businesses and schools to help youth in trouble by providing safe refuge.

Activity 3

Children's services:lsf's children's services served 5,503 at-risk children during the year. The goal of the program is to improve the quality of life for needy children and their families. - the child care food program ensures that children under 13 in day care or after school programs receive healthy, well-balanced meals every day, thereby improving their diets and helping them build good eating habits. - peppi head start child development center improves the quality of life for at-risk preschool children by providing comprehensive services to families in belle glade, a poverty-stricken area populated largely by struggling, low-income families and migrant workers. - early head start is offered in family child care home settings. This federally-funded, community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers is designed to enhance the development of very young children and promote healthy family functioning.
